Ok, so tonight was the grand re-opening of our local drag strip. It has remained unchanged for about the past 30 or so years, till someone bought it at the end of last year and spent ALOT to bring it up to par with all the other strips across the country. So me and two friends decided sure lets go run'm. I'm a autocrosser at heart but every so often you gotta give in ;)

We get in, and since everything has been moved around, and SOO many people showed up to see and run at the new track things were crazy. From when i drove in...i kinda kept moving and never really had time to setup my car or anything. So into the lanes I go, thinking i'll just get back in the groove and crack a run off, there will be more later I can set the car up then. All I changed from last year was a dead motor mount, and my timing was now advance (more power definally hehe). So i figured with the new drag surface beating my old 16.5 was easy right? I pull up to the line against a new lexus IS300 (atteza as some of you know it). Long story sort, the track is still sorta bring broken in so if you have a FWD car your shit outta luck for traction. However the lexus didn't do to much better i got away first and got a good car easy on him. I look over and think GREAT i'm putting up a fight. Then it happend, i totally mashed and missed 2nd gear. By the time I let loose a string of obesnties a mile long and caught 2nd again. The lexus was well on its way to a 16.1...my time with the mis-shift? 17.5 , a full second SLOWER than my fastest...but check this, at damn near the same MPH. Which told me right there the civic was workin ALOT harder i just had to make one more good pass to break 16.5.

Then the rains touched the track ever so lightly. This lead to two decisions. First due to the sheer amount of people it would only be 1 more run. Our last runs would be 1/8 mile only! Other than nailing a new best reaction time of .542 on my 1/8 mile, my 60 foot time blew hard core (2.6...yea i got way to happy with the gas). To only get one and a half passes just wasn't worth it, i'll try again in a few months when the track hype dies a little and the surface breaks in. Kids if you wanna race your civics....go autocrossing you thank me later lol.

Anywho, this was my fastest time last year...

RT- .763
60'- 2.412
330- 6.890
1/8- 10.611
mph- 65.24
1000- 13.806
1/4- 16.548
mph- 81.03

Ok here's the only 1/4 run of the night...notice how close the MPH was to my fastest yet how far off the times were. And you can see where i missed 2nd gear...

RT- .709
60'- 2.572
330- 7.549
1/8- 11.446
mph- 63.35
1000- 14.760
1/4- 17.543
mph- 80.29

And the pointless 1/8 mile run where I improved my RT but at the loss of my 60' time lol, still wasn't to bad again when compared to my fastest 1/8 above.

RT- .542
60'- 2.608
330- 7.179
1/8- 10.947
mph- 65.49

Bottom line, i need to cut my 60' times to at least a 2.3 or something. And as for me missing 2nd gear...hey shit happens ;) Even my friend's neon who has pulled 2.2 on street tires couldn't get anything as far as grip. Even some of the RWD cars got squirrly but they did way better than any of us. BTW this track was The New Keystone Raceway in western PA. Nice track they just need to get their act together lol. I'll stick to autocrossing...much eaiser to beat people there  :D

so is that track leveled out? i knew nhra would never run on it b/c it sloped down hill or something like that... its relativly close to me but i haven't made it out there yet... doubt i will any time soon since in a week my car is gonna be sitting on blocks for about a year :( no parking in pittsburgh for it ugggg... i know some one who ran a 13.xx in a Cav. z24 on that track w/o spraying the bottle he had on board... oh yeah that was the other thing, did they make it longer... i heard there wasn't enough stopping distance for some cars, don know how true it is but thats what the word was...

okay...you will never hear this story again. i'm getting caught in a habib moment.

this is when the 88 accord still ran. jer and i were both leaving the shop. him in the accord and me in the 89 si. we ended up side by side at a red light. he revs on me :D even though my clutch was all but gone, i thought i'd blow him out the water anyways. light turns green and i had him....until i did the same as you and missed 2nd. he went right past me. i caught back up, but it didn't matter. the only time i had ever missed 2nd was against him in the hooptie. i'm sure i'll still hear about it 10 year later...

but it's all good. i got him back later when we still had the si & dx

yes they did all those things, the IHRA owns it now actaully I think hehe. Word has it they might their first real event in a few months which would really help the track out. Its all leveled, all paved...and yes the run off at the end now goes on forever. The lights are brighter and their are more of them. The PA system is loud as hell, but keystone has their own FM station now so when you roll in you just set your radio and you can hear them for like a mile radius or even longer I think so thats kinda nice. Its just confusing cuz its all moved around. But its cleaner overall thats what I liked about it. Goto the website and look at the photo gallery section they took some nice shots of what it looks like. Just the damn track needs broken in just a bit more alot of people had traction issues but in a few weeks I think they will be ok. And naturally there is alot of hype cuz the track is all new so thats why on only got 1 or so run. In a few months maybe i'll try again with keystone.

Ami - stop playin with that silly civic, drop a H22 in the accord and a B16 in the squareback :D

unless you intend to drive your happy ass cross country to come and help....

SHUT UUUUUUP!

i just heard an earfull about a b16 in the ol' Squareback lastnight. but he thinks we would have to install it backwards. think about that. now the exhaust is shooting out the front....and the shift linkage would be backwards (LMAO) you'd have to drop it in 4th to be in 1st
:bloated: :hehehe:

we're gonna see what porche engine we can fit in there. main requirement, it needs to be a pancake engine.

Habibs:
RT- .763
60'- 2.412

1/8- 10.611
mph- 65.24
1000- 13.806

My best time:
RT- 1.028
60'- 2.467
330- 7.142
1/8- 11.074
mph- 62.46
1000- 14.532
1/4- 17.4
mph- 76.3

For a first time I wanted to try the 1/4 and see what #'s a stock DX could do. I was driving my 91 DX bone stock with a 3/4 full tank and no real race prep :) It was fun and there were 3 other 4th gen hatches there. I mostly raced my buddy in his Golf GTi and our races were pretty even.

I raced this girls 4th gen with exhaust and here were the results...

Mine:
RT- .734
1/4- 17.528
mph- 76.39

Hers:
RT- .487
1/4- 17.444
mph- 78.57

It was fun and yes she did win but she red lighted. Si's seem to pull away at higher speeds but acceleration is about the same.
