Some changes on this forum. Please read guys!

Hi everybody. I just thought I'd drop a line concerning some changes here on this forum I think you should know about.

Earlier in the week, I was contacted by AF and offered a position as mod on the Eclipse/Talon/Laser forum. I accepted the offer.

My nomination as mod was not based upon any previous moderating experience, and no, I don't know everything there is to know about DSMs. That out the way, there are many on here who could have done just as good a job of being mod, or even better, than I plan on doing. So any "is-he-better-than-me-?" bitterness should be unwarranted. I joined here as a complete newbie, and for all practical pusposes, still am a newbie, learning something new every day. Socrates said, "the greatest knowledge is for you to know that you know nothing." Dwell on that a little.

My primary duties, like any other mod, will be to keep things clean and tidy on here, helping out Josh. And to do that, the last thing I want to use as a main tool is the "close thread" button. Newbies will post whore all over the place without ever understanding why the sub-forums were created, and I would greatly appreciate if older members of this forum could kindly guide them to do the right thing. It's a community effort to make everything go smoothly.

For starters, lets start posting in the right sub-forum. I do realize that there are some posts that cannot be shoved into any of the 3 subforums, and sometimes, can go into more than one sub-forum. That's your call untill we figure out what more sub-forums are needed, but basic stuff like "my belt squeels, help" etc, we all know where to put that. The main forum should be a hang-out/semi-OT place. I'll discuss this with Josh, and try to move as many threads as I can ino the appropriate places...if I can get away from Quake 4 on the XBox 360 for a second :naughty:.

I've been wondering who they wre gana pick and i think they picked the right person i think u will do a terific job! atleast they got someone who does know a good little bit about DSM's.

I just wanna throw my two cents out since this thread is out here... We do need to help out the mods more often. Shpyder is right guys, we all know where we are supposed to post and we all have ignored it at some point in time. I know I have done it too. But in doing that, new members are going off of our lead and posting in the wrong area. Lets help the mods out by directing new members better, instead of flaming them, and posting in the right areas. I'm sure if we all help out a little bit Shpyder won't have to use those special little buttons that he doesn't wanna use. lol

Congrats Shpyder. I think that it was a vrey wise decission to make you the new mod.

I lobbied hard for him to be a mod, it took two months but it finally happened. I know he'll do a good job, congrats shpyder.

There's two administrators on this site who make changes, and add moderators. Igor and recently mcervantes, other mods can give suggestions, ban people, carry out their light work but they make all the major changes, and they have the final say.

Thanks everyone, I'll do my best. But just like Blackcrow64 said, it's really important that the older members help out. When newbies are told off by older members and guided the right way, it creates a psych effect, even more so than when a mod tells them to do something. When they see the entire community is swinging one way, doing things right, it automatically sets a good tone for everyone else to follow.

I usually give DSMTuners as an example of a forum that is a premium example of a good set-up. It recently became as strict as hell. Those mods don't take nothing...it's pretty much 2 warnings before a temporary ban, or blacklisting, etc. But more than that, the "DSM Wisemen" and other regulars always make sure that mods never have to use such authority, by directing the original poster to the correct sub-forum, and/or PMing a mod if they think something needs to be moved or locked, etc. Everyone helps out, everyone wins.

Just out of curiosity...do you get like paid to be a mod? I would assume not, but the way Shpyder said in his first thread "I got offered a job as moderator" makes it sound like it is a paid job...Just wondering...

Hey congrats Shpyder, I know you'll do a good mod job. PLEASE dont turn this into another DSMtuners.com.... theres a reason most/some of us dont frequent there. There seems to be a really gay hierarchy (sp?) over there, and I hate having to try to kiss ass so I can post other places than the newbie infested newbie forum. I tried to keep up there for about 3 days and I just decided AF was more relaxed and just plain feels like home. Speaking of which, I LOVE HAVING THE PURPLE BACK. Thanks to who ever did that. Anyway, good luck Shpyder.

ALso does this happen to anyone ever since the new AF was put up: I now have a horrible, HORRIBLE time trying to post, after I hit teh "post reply" button, it will take maybe 5 minutes to post and most of the time it will just send a page saying "ERROR 4401" or something like that.......

It does process it because that's happens to me too, but when I press the submit post button again it says I can't post the thread because it's already been posted, which it has. Crazy:screwy:

I wish, but at $80 a month (for 6mb cable - only option round here)...I think not. Hey, it worked fine with th old site, but no worries, everything is cool now!

I have a 8.5 meg connection and still this website takes for ever sometimes.

Yeah I have pretty quick internet, and I still get problems.

I think Shpyder will do a great job as moderator. He knows dsm's .....well he's convinced me he does anyway. lol. Good luck
