new track time....

Ok, I'll just start out by saying this... Please excuse any cursing I do right now cause I am really pissed.






Ok, so tonight I went to the track because I haven't been there in a long time, and it was pretty cold out tonight. I was hoping for a nice time tonight, since last time I was there, I ran a 15.8(yes I know it's horrible). Tonight, I ran a fucking best of 15.2! WHAT THE FUCK!? The 15.8 time was before boost controller, exhaust, and a safc!

My dsm buddy also happened to be there tonight too, which I didn't know till I saw his car. You guys might remember him - FourG6397GST on here. His friend has a gsx, and he came over and told me that my main problem is my 60' time. Just remember this is my first turbo car, and 5 speed, so I'm still not the best. This was also my 3rd time to the track ever. I didn't think that I was this bad of a driver. Here is what my slip says:

Fucking pathetic. The kid with the gsx told me when he was still fairly stock (intake, exhaust), he ran a mid 14. I don't know what my god damn problem is. Am I that shitty?

What am I doing wrong? I know the 60' is really bad. I sit on the line, rev to ~4200 and let it out at the same speed I gas it. When I'm upshifting, I take it to redline. Should I not do this, or should I not since t2slow drops off ~5k rpm?

it sounds like you are not even launching if you are not very much. for the mods you have you should be running some pretty good times

Sounds like its time for a new turbo. I think you are pushing your turbo to its max. The T-25 is kinda small and wont yeld huge hp. Maybe you should start looking at a Big 16G or a bigger turbo if you want. Upgrade injectors, get a fuel pump and FMIC for cheap and I think you will see some serious gains. Maybe a ACT 2600 can help out too. DSM link would be wounderful but you might need time to save up for it :).
I wouldnt blame the turbo for slowing you down since there are people with a lot better times then you with stock turbo's but every one knows that the T-25 sucks (atleast I dont like it).
You have some mods on your car but I think its time you upgrade your turbo and fuel system. You car is capable of 400-450hp (maybe more if you are lucky) on stock internals so take advantage of it.

The fact is he should be running a lot better times than he is. Finding out why seems like a more realistic approach rather than spending all kinds of money upgrading to run more power than he may want.

I would say let someone else run your car and see if they do any better. I know this sounds like a sin, but it might be necessary to see if it's your car, or you. :uhoh:

Does the MPH look low to anyone else? You definitely need to work on the 60' time but the fact that the MPH are low suggests to me that your clutch might be slipping or you have a boost leak or you just suck at shifting...

I would suggest not purchasing any more upgrades for your car though until you can narrow down the problem. I'd guess you should be in the high 13s/low 14s range based on your mod list, an above average skilled driver and a well tuned car.

*EDIT* If forgot to add that I remember reading a while ago that the best shift points for the T25 are 6k in 1st and 7k in all other gears. I'm about 90% certain it was a Kevin post. Something about efficiency of turbo and boost falling off past there makes it actually faster to shift before redline out of 1st. If I have time, I'll do a search and try to find the thread for you.

Without doing any math, that looks a little low. Something could be wrong. I'd let someone else take a shot, see what times they pull. If it's just your driving, you're in luck. That mod/repair requires no installation :)

With practice the 60' will at least break into the ones. You don't have to pull Kevin-esque 1.5's to get a good time. Remember to have fun, lol.

Your 60' sux, and your mph is really low for all the mods you have done. Even if you cut a 1.9 60' your time still won't be what it should with the things you have done to the car. Don't go buy a whole lot of other crap though. Tune what you've got. More parts on a poorly tuned car = more problems. Like Dragon said, you may have slippage or something.

Ya, I think it is me more than the car. I have gotten pretty fast at the shifts, but I still don't know what's wrong. One other thing, like any normal day driving, if I slam the gas in second, the turbo sounds like it's screaming, but it doesn't really do it in any other gear. There is no shaft play in it either. I know I definately have to work on the 60', but could there possibly be like something wrong with the car? Like bad compression, bad boost leak, ect?

EDIT: I also have about a 35-40 min HIGHWAY drive to the track. Next time, should I let her sit for a while before I run since the intercooler is probably heatsoaked alread?

Are you sure it's your turbo screaming or could it be your clutch not grabbing properly and having the flywheel spin against it. If it is happening only when you quickly shift to 2nd, I'd take a look at the clutch. So far all your evidence(low MPH, poor 60' time, trouble quickly shifting) says to me that you are having clutch issues. Are you still running the stock clutch? How many miles are on your clutch? How often do you launch your car? It might be time to look into a new one.

Here's your dilemma: If your clutch is good but old, you should be able to practice and get your 60' time down. In practicing, you're probably going to wear out your clutch and have to get a new one. If your clutch is bad, you won't be able to bring your 60' time down with practice. You'll probably get frustrated trying and end up completely destroying the clutch (which could mean a tow truck home from the "track").

Here's what I would do. Don't run your car hard for a bit. Check out all the simple stuff. Retighten your pipes. Do a boost leak check. Check your turbo and make sure the fins aren't chewed. If you don't find anything, check buy yourself a performance clutch of choice and put it in the trunk. Then practice your face off trying to bring down your 60' time. If you blow the clutch, you've already got your replacement. If your clutch ends up fine, you've got your buffer for down the road when you do end up needing a clutch.

This is of course assuming its a clutch problem... It's all speculation based in your details.

Take some ice to the track, and use it on the manifold before you race and between rounds to keep things cool. :2cents:

that 60' time is definitely the problem. I've ran the same 60' time in my car which has less power, is slightly heavier, and only FWD.

I'd definitely say something is wrong with your car judging by the mph. The 60' foot is bad yeah, but not bad enough to trap as low as you did. I'd guess boost leak or improper tune, or maybe the car is pulling timing because of knock, phantom or real knock.

i was going to say a boost leak or just for shits and poops check your manifold to turbo bolts... see if those are loose at all.. .and check the nuts on the studs of your manifold.... if your hearing a "Screaming" that could be the reason why, thats what happend to my car..... atleast... while it ran =*(

I would suggest what has been said before me. Definately do a boost leak test.

Also practice launching. It's not to hard in an awd car because you don't really have to worry about wheelspin. Just rev it up, dump the clutch and go.

Damn man thats way to slow!!! my 1st time i brought my car to the track with just the free mods you can do and a 3 inch turbo back exhaust, ractive filter i ran a 14.7, a few weeks later with no other mods than listed still i got down to 13.7, by just dropping all my shift points down a 1000rpms. This all on the T25 like my sig says ;)
