So i just recently sold my stock 89 2.3L mustang for 3500 :D hahaha....Now i want to get another one and ive come doiwn to a few choices. At first i was debating between a 5.0L and a 2.3L turbo. The mustang book i have says that the turbo is half a car length slower off the line than the 5.0.

But just recently i have found out about the thunderbird super coupe..... Its a 3.8 L V6 with a super chrager. Now i have 3 options :O

The 5.0 is my last choice, now im just debating bertween the two smaller engines, if any one has any info that would be awesome. Could i use stock drive train from a V6 mustang with the supercoupe engine?

I am sure you could get that supercoupe motor into a V6 Mustang, or even a V8 Mustang for that matter. Personally I would just get the 5.0 and build on that. Its a proven method and there are more parts to support you.

you can certainly put a supercoupe engine in a v6 stang, from 94-98 they had the same engine, the engine in mine is almost the same thing but there are a few upgrades to it. as far as the drivetrain, you will want to get a t-lock for the rear-end and it should be fine. if you plan on turning the boost up real high u might want to get a 8.8 rear end.

+1 on that, I know that the supercoupe came with an 8.8 rear. I don't know how much a 7.5 can handle but I doubt it was made to have serious power put through it.

from what ive heard, the 7.5 can handle a decent amount of power if it has t-lock. when you start getting around 300rwhp is when you need to think about replacing it.

as far as the T-5 tranny in the v6 stang. it should be fine if you dont abuse it. a quote i liked from mm&ff was ive seen people that run 14s destroy a T-45 and people that run 11s on a T-5 and do just fine. it depends on how you treat it.

Thanks for the advice. I was wondering also, if the supercoupe engine would beable to bolt onto a stock 5.0 drive train? Because if it could im sure the 5.0would be able to handle much more abuse.

I may have found an engine though! A freind of a freind has a supercoupe engine with a larger supercharger and better pullies sitting in his garage wating to be put into something, so hes gonna ask for me and see whats happening.

What are some of the pros/cons between the supercoupe and turbocoupe engine? Ive heard peoples preferences from both sides but neither have really given enough info to really make up my mind

well the supercoupe engine is a lil more powerful stock. but both engines have really stout blocks and can handle tons of boost. from what ive heard though the older 3.8 engines had head gasket problems, thats not true with mine since its newer but i dont know about the supercoupe engine.

I don't know much about the two motors, but to me I would rather the SCv6. I mean they are both forced induction, but the V6 has more cylinders and larger displacement.

Ya i think im leaning towards the supercoupe.... I just liek the idea of 6 cylinders instead of 4, and the 6 can sound muuuuch better than a 4 can. Im still undecided, I want to get this project happening fast, because im driving an 81 corolla station wagon right now.... and its almost summer i cant be driving that for summer. So ill probably take which ever engine comes up first at a reasonable price, And then get the car to suit the engine.

Oh and on a side note... I am planning on building a flame kit for the exhaust :D Right now i think im going to do it the way they did on monster garage, with a propane torch bottle, and valves so that i dont have to stop the firing of the pistons to piss out fuel... If anyones got advice on that too that would be wicked, you cant find free instructions on the net:banghead:

I wouldn't advise open flame near any car.
