what is up with the new chevy impala? why would they put ugly taillights back on the car? they were going in the right direction making them round on the 2000-2005 models
why would they go the opposite direction and throw--what look like either camry tailights or mercedez-benz taillights on the car?
ugly...
the impala namplate has been going down hill after 96..in my opinion.

Because more people though that those round taillights and the dark red panel they were in was ugly.

Yeah, because a better built, better handling, faster car is definitely a bad thing to you, huh?

the body type of the 2000+ alone is horrible enough...

Yeah impalas are a dime a dozen these days. That isn't all that bad though, can't say I mind them. The new 06 "SS" models have a 5.3L V8 though. Not that I mind a 3.8L with a supercharger either.

Actually if you took the time to look at the new Impala you would see that it is infact a nicer, better built car, with a better interior, and improved powertrain options. You do realize that the 3800 S/C Impala SS is faster than the LT1 Impalas don't you, Motor Trend got a 2004 Impala SS to 60 in 6.5 and a 14.72 in the 1/4, not too shabby for a V6.

Impala's look like camry's? Just remember that the camry was/is the best selling car in America (ironic huh?), now, according to commericals, GM is the best selling car company. So you can see why they made a car look similar to the camry.

Well I never liked the Impala after it went front drive, and it's new look is mediocre at best. Just another bland GM design IMHO, and they wonder what's wrong. Make something people want.

Apparently they did, as more people buy bland, FWD, generic sedans than any other car. ;)
And the new ones DO perform better than any old Impala, and they are built better than any previous Impala. And they are a good dollar value in class. And while I love the last RWD Impala SS the most of any since the '66-67, I think the '06 Impala is a giant step upwards from the last generation.

LOL! Good point, well that is the heart and soul of the rental car business. It's just Chevy, well GM, hell most manufacturers don't make much that I'd buy. Chevy uglied up their trucks when they put the Avalanche front end on them, the HHR looks good but it's based on an economy car, and the Impala ('06 and previous version) isn't being bought by traditional Impala lovers. At least they still make the vette, and I pray they bring back the Camaro (RWD at that). Toyota makes what? Trucks are the only thing I'd buy from them, again I pray they bring back something in their case the Supra. Ford, Mustang is nice, GT great but I can't afford a $180,000 supercar, I'd buy their trucks. Chrysler, hmmm ok a base Charger isn't too expensive rear drive affordable maybe all hope is not lost. I'd buy a Charger before an Impala anyday.

Yeah ppl are buying because Chevy is practically giving them away...stop the incentives and see where the sales go
That being said I actually do like the look of the new Impala...It blends a newer generation styling with the more boxy 300C look
The 5.3L V8 (LT1 or LS1 I can't ever tell the difference) isn't bad, though I find a 303hp V8 to be outdated...but given its competition I would have a tough time taking it over a Maxima or an Accord

dosent anyone else find it sketchy that the new SS puts 303hp through the front wheels? i do believe that has some handling consequences. i would tend to think people looking for a V8 sedan would hop for the Charger being its RWD, has more horsepower, and looks like its going to eat someone alive.
but the big picture is that most Impalas sold are not going to be SS's. i think that the regular Impala is a decent buy. It's bigger then the competition, offers a wide range of...well...pushrod V6s, and the styling is more nuetral then anything.
and to say its a bad car is kind of the oppisite of what it is. its actually a major improvement. its not really too ugly like the last Impala, and holy god, the interior in the 06 makes the 05 look like a terrible mid ninties flash back (which is what it really is).

i prefer the interior styling of the new impalas, but the body is too plain.
the camry is america's most expensive appliance. its not a car to drive, its a car to get you there and back, which is what chevy has done with the impala and malibu.
We have an 03 imp in the family, my fiance drives it. I like the car, it is great for road trips and i dont think it looks too bad considering it came from GM, i just hate the interior. I just had to drive a 2005 malibu for a week while my car was in the shop. I hated that car with an envy.
Compared to the malibu, the impala is a great car. The malibu imho is a camry on downers. it is ugly and drives like a lawnmower.
