ABS activation repair

If you suspects the cause of their ABS activation is a wheel speed sensor problem and need to replace the sensor, I have 60 pictures showing how to do it. They are very detailed and make the job really easy.

Is this for a C or K 1500?

This was for a 1996 K1500 5.7L V8.

I don't have the manual in front of me, but I'm sure it can be used on other years/models as long as the sensor is mounted on the hub.

Does anyone know how/if I can post the pics?

It might be a better idea to email the photos rather than posting them on the web. Posting copyrighted material might make the publisher mad. It wouldn't bother me any because I need the help! If you get a chance to email the info it would really help me out!

Thanks again for the info. I plan to get started this weekend when I can spare a few hours to do all the sensors. Hopefully they just need cleaning!:bigthumb:

I have 60 pictures that I TOOK (they aren't copyrighted or from a book) showing how I DID the repair and how it worked for me. If you're interested in seeing how I did it, let me know.

I've been getting a lot of messages asking for pics and I want to make it clear that I'm not a mechanic and I'm not trying to put the repair book people out of business. I followed some tips I found on this forum and thought people might want to see how their tips can help out.

If people choose to use them to help themselves, great...but the repair involves playing with the brake system and I wouldn't want someone to follow my pics and get themselves hurt...so please consult a professional if you are unsure of anything.

B.T.W. you showed the picture of the sensor all messed up. I guess I am wondering how it gets messed up.

Just wanted to let you know that I just finished removing and cleaning my wheel speed sensors and my problem seems to be cured! The ABS works fine on ice but doesn't kicked in on dry pavement anymore.
Your excellent photos helped prepare me for the job. It want pretty well except for one bolt which I rounded off and had to remove with a Bolt-Out tool. (Michigan road salt seems to do that!) I got lucky because it appears that just cleaning the sensors did the trick. No need to replace them. I just cleaned the mounting surface, sprayed the sensors with Kroil, wiped them off, lubed the o-ring and re-installed them

Just wondering if you still have those photo's available.. My '96 just started having that problem in the last couple of weeks... I put new brakes on mid-summer. I wasn't having that problem then. Things didn't click until I got to checking forums in a search on Google.., and found yours. I'm thinking corrosion is the problem. This happened a couple days after our first snow, and salt on the roads... It was probably just on the verge, and that did it...
Going to tear in to it this weekend, just thought some of your pics would help... I have the factory manual, but not exactly step for step. I do recall it saying NOT to pry on the sensor.
I do 90% of my own repairs, so do have a little knowledge...
