has any1 used an engine degreaser to clean out their engine. I hate an old rusty looking engine in my bird but am afraid to take the risk. I was told to use a tough degreaser wait 10 min then hose it off. Finally add a dress up spray and itll look brand new. Has any1 done this b4 and would u recomend it. Replies are greatly appreciated.

Just be careful around electrical components. Certain things were not meant to get wet.

ya i just got my car about 3 days ago and the motor was DIRTY!!! i took it to the car wash and sprayed the car wash degreaser on it while it was running, and it got some off but i need to let it soak more, and try it again.

To be honest...I have never cleaned under the hood of mine.
In my opinion...too many things to screw up/get wet.

I would rather pay a dealership to steam clean it for me.

I just did mine the day i failed to get the plugs changed . Store brand degreaser . I am scared to use a pressure washer on it though . The engine gets wet when you drive in the rain anyway . But I don't like the idea of doing it while it is running or hot . I cracked a head many years ago spraying cold water on a hot engine . I heard the crack happen , like an ice cube in hot tea . Rob

I clean mine a couple times a year, but i cross my fingers when I do. That miserable LT-1 opti-spark distributor on the front of those engines will ruin your day real quick if it gets water in it.

^that was going to be my Caveat as well. pre 95 LT1s had weep holes rather than the vacuum tube going to the intake tract. they are notorious for failing when wet.
