no, you want it horizontal, and you pull the handle out, not down.

Thats funny. That reminds me of my First C4 corvette. I spent like 4 hours trying to open the friggin hood. I was about to lose my mind having my first vette ever and not being able to look under there. Anyway, after being sure the release was broke and getting all worked up. I call the prior owner and am like the hood release just broke is there another way to open this up. Turns out on the clam shell hoods you have to lift up while releasing. So I hang up and get the hood open clean up under there and polish it up nice and go to show her off and can't back out of my driveway cause I couldn't get it to engage reverse with the 4+3 tranny. Well aftering feeling like a fool about the hood and not wanting to call the owner again. I looked all over the owners manual and found out you needed to lift up on the gear selector while engaging reverse. It was a safety feature to lock out accidently going in there.

So how did you get it open? Did you have to push the fuel door button? Cause thats how you had to do it in the Lincoln town car we had..

ha ha, my second car an '87 escort, took it for a test drive, when I brought it back and parked it, shut it off and the damn key wouldn't come out, I thought it was broken in the igntition and I just sealed the deal on a car I wasn't too sure of just yet.

Well, that's when I found out about the pesky little ign. release tab under the column Ford hides. :( Stupidest thing ever, makes no sense why it's there.

I agree, why the hell would you have something like that for removing the key. I can see a hidden button to be able to start it but to remove the key?.

wrightz28
01-18-2006, 12:26 PM
Maybe to slow you down from ripping the keys out of the ignition and launching them because the damn thing broke down again?

on the tank door you had to push one side in and it opened....i thought since it was a mercedes it'd be something difficult and never thought it'd be something as simple as that....i searched the car over for a button or lever lol and the fuel door didnt have a lip or anything to grab ahold of....i felt pretty stupid lol

i remember when i blew one of the accessory fuses and i had to open the trunk with the key, i was picking up a friend for school who had to put his bag in the back, and i put the car in neutral and couldn't figure out why i couldn't get the key out of the ignition, i actually twisted the door key off of the ring and walked around and opened it... then when i got to school i put it in park and decided to see if i could get my "stuck" key out... sure enough it came out, who woulda guessed you have to be in park to remove the key?
