Hey, i have a 73 mustang with a 351W and i want to know if a 600 CFM carb will work well or if its gonna be too small. The engine will be mildly modified, the only things im putting on it are headers, new mid-size intake, the carb, new cam, and that may just be it.

I don't remember what monthly issues, but Mustang Monthly and I think Car Craft had a chart of cubic inch to cfm. Don't quote me but you may want to go to 650cfm. Like I said don't quote me but look for those charts. If I remember correctly 650 was too big for a 302 though. I don't know if that helps or not. I know on the Mustang Monthly it was within the past 2 years. Hell, you might look at the chart and see that 600 is just right for the 351. Good luck.

I have an olds 350 with a performance intake, headers, and 3/4 race cam. I have a 650 double pumper that does its job very well. It has no problem at all lighting the L60s up whenever I ask it to.

A 600cfm or 650cfm carb either one will work just fine.

CFM = C.I.D. x RPM x VE ÷ 3456

That carb size formula always turns out a CFM that seems to be smaller than what an engine can really use. I agree that a 600 or 650 will be fine. A heavy breathing modded 351W might need as much as 750, but a stock or mild engine will have better economy and drivability with the smaller size.

The ol' Boss 302s came with 780 :D, but then again they were made to turn 8000rpms all day long.

Best car to ever come from Dearborn.
Dad had a 70' grabber green one and uncle had 70' orange one.
Dad's was a 4 speed w/ 4.11s out back.
