2000 Suburban Light Switch problem Upgradeable?

The light switch in my Suburban is on its last leg I think. I noticed on a trip this last summer it was getting hot and in the middle of a bridge just east of Baton Rouge LA, at 10:30pm my lights went out, at 60mph. I reached down and found the switch and turned the lights on manually and they came on...no more problems, just a little clean up needed. I noticed last night the switch was warm. I have heard this was a indicator that the light switch is about to go. Is this correct?
So, Can I replace the switch with a newer model where I can turn off the lights? ( when I drive thru a light display and they ask that you turn off the lights )
Or can I only replace with SOStuff....

If its still under warranty you need to replace it with O.E. (Original Equipment) or you will totally screw yourself on something small and stupid. If not, as long as you know a little about electronics you can pretty much DO anything.

No warranty, just my wallet.
I guess I should pull the switch when I can and take it down to the dealer and compair it to a later model switch.

I was wondering if any techs had done this before?

Thanks for your reply

You should find your closest dealer on Yahoo.com then just send the parts dept. an email asking them that question. Save some gas lol. If they tell you you can replace it with a newer one i would try to get it from Autozone or somethin because the dealer will screw you without kissin you first lol. Hope it all works out for you.

The switch is available at ac delco parts store (see www.acdelco.com to find the one nearast you).

Part number is D1534G and it the same part that you would get from a dealer.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to this, but my '01 also has this dumb light switch and I think it's absolutely stupid that some engineer won't let me turn off the lights on my own truck. This design might be great for a teenager learning to drive who can't find the light switch, but there are occasions when I would like to turn my lights off at night. Yes... I know I can push the override button four times.:banghead:

Thanks for the replys,
What is the push the override button?
I understand what you mean Tuffdvr88, never did get kissed at my dealer.
Thanks for the info on ACDelco, I will check into it and repost.

My '01 has a "dome light override" button located just beside the light switch. If you push it once it shuts off the dome light and four times will shut off the head lights. I'd rather just have an off position or a way to use only the parking lights when I want to.

Thanks, I never knew that about the switch.
I too wish I could run just the park lights.
Still have not had the time to check on the parts. Maybe sometime this month.
Thanks again for the info.
