Alright, i went and bought all the stuff i'll need for my flush mount sub box for my wheel well....but I have never used fibreglass before

I have the ratios for catalyst to resin so that's not a problem, but i decided to wax the wheel well first so i'll be able to remove the box while stil having a snug fit...so I bought honey wax that u rub on, so i'll do a few layers of that, then what????

Do i brush some catalized resin over then wax then lay strips of the fibreglass then more resin, or is it fibre glass over the wax then just resin over it, or do i soak the fibre glass in resin then lay it...please help...

Here's waht i bought:
3 yards of 1.5 ounce fibre glass
1 gallon resin (unwaxed)
catalyst (hardner, right?)
mixing container
2 brushes
1 aluminum roller
1 can of honey wax...

Please help ASAP as i want to get started tonight...

Lay down the strip of fiberglass dry, then paint on it (I use regular 50cent paint brushes) with the resin till you can tell the fiberglass has soaked it in then lay your second layer on that and paint it again with the resin till its soaked in, repeat till you get your desired thickness. Wait till its starts to harden and then you can remove it and let it dry in the sun. its also going to get very hot while its curing just so you know.

You forgot the most important thing! ACETONE for clean up, you do NOT want that resin on your skin long. Also, I doubt that 3 yards will be enough, you want a few layers, atleast 4 or 5 to make it really strong. And remember to use that roller to get all the bubbles out so it's nice and smooth, as smooth as it can get anyway.

sorry, i bought acetone, jsut forgot to say anyhting...

so i don't let each layer dry before applying the next layer???

Will my wax idea work??? will it be hard to remove, i was told if i bang it with a rubber mallot it should come out...let me know...i still have to go buy 1"X3" studs to make the frame tonight...i'll buy the 3/4" mdf wood for the top of the box tomorrow...i just want to get the base done tonight...

So, i'm going to do three layers of wax, put the frame in, then 3 layers of fibre glass (as long as i have enough) then let that dry over night. Then i'm going to remove it tomorrow morning before work, then after work i'm going to do the remaining layer, then on saturday i'm going to put the mdf wood on and paint...sound good?

any suggestions will be much appreciated!!

Remember that when the fiberglass is drying/curing it will get really hot. like 130 degrees. And with it that close to the gas tank it potentialy could cause problems.
When i do do stuff like this i useualy do all my layers at one time instead of doing a layer and then leting it dry. This useualy makes the layers bond better and thus make the fiberglass stronger.

With the wax, it could work no problem but again remember its going to get really hot and may melt the wax to the point it doesnt do what you want it too. Another reason i would wait till it sets up (about 30 min) then pull it out.

Sounds like the rest you have all setup.
good luck and let us know how it works, and pics if you can.

I used petroleum jelly to keep mine from bonding to the car, but that was a mess and a half to clean up...

I just finished the first layer of fiberglass lsat night and went to go pull it out this morning...and POP, it came out great...well...i did have ot bang it with a hammer a few times...hehe, but hell, at least it came out. I used honey wax, three coats...took like 1.5 hours, since oyu have to let it dry...ah well...

The first layer is a litttle rough, i'm going to have to sand it...but coverage is pretty good, only missed a couple spots...unfortunately, I won't be able to finish this weekend...I don't have enough fiberglass and i can't go buy anymore today, because I don't get a break from work today (8.5 hours straight...ehhhh...) and the store is probably closed tomorrow (saturday).

Thanks for all your help guys...I'll post pics as soon as I have everything installed (probably June 22/23) Thanks again!!
