hey guys i remember seeing in a earlier post a book about how to build performance engines for pontiacs. well what im wanting to do is build a very powerfull engine for my 79 trans am and was wondering if there were any good books or websites i could get ahold of for more info. and i mean i want to build this engine piece by piece i expect it to take some time.. that way i have something to do thanks a lot

there are a few good books out there. i think year one still stocks a few. or check with your local book store. some good info can also be found in the pontiac magazines. hot rod and car craft also had build a few pontiac engines in the last 1 1/2 years

The Book by Jim Hand is a great book to have for your nightly reading!! Its a MUST HAVE!!

Go to borders they have some cool reading there, buy a couple research and rebuild. Have fun!

The book you're talking about is the same one sxt8bird mentions. "How to Build Max-performance Pontiac V8s", Jim Hand, author, SA Designs, publisher.
This is the only CURRENT study of the Injun. It renders all the old books (from the '70s and early '80s) obsolete. It was published in '04, and is already a bit behind, as development of the Pontiac is in high gear! Harland Sharpe and Eaglre report in excess of a 500% increase in Pontiac parts movement in the last 5 years. That's about 10 times the same era for Chevy and Ford, and INFINITELY more than Olds and Buick. The book has just entered its 3rd printing! The publisher figured the 1st printing would take a year or two to sell. It was gone before it was actually "available". The 2nd printing is now sold out, too!
Word of caution! The book is aimed strictly at the "street performance" crowd, and does not contain a lot of real racing information. Most of what is in there can be applied, though.
