A Wet Winter

hi, i have a 92 s10 blazer LT. This winter... it is raining and during and after the larger storms, i notice a musty smell. i lift my driverside rubberfloormat to discover a absolutely soaked carpet well (driverside). So, i post here for the reason of some advice or something of the sort. the water is only on the low spot where i put my feet, not on the higher center console ( where the heater blows out), nor does there seem to be water running down behind the pedals. WHAT I DID: removed four screws on carpet fastener along door to liftthe carpet. disocvered there really wasnt water running behind pedals beacause that padding/carpet was bone dry. i am wondering if water could be coming up from underneath through various screwholes for wiring and/or the screws that hold the plastice carpet fastener as i drive. any leads would be..greatly appreciated

It could be your windshield is leaking or seamsealer is cracked uder the cowl area.You will need to pull up the carpet and take as much stuff out as you can and then hose down the outside of your truck to see where it is leaking.

Do you have any power wire running off your battery for a system in the blazer? If so how are they ran. If you remove the rubber baffle that connects the door to the body and run the wires through there then the water is coming in the same way. I say this from experience as it happened to a friend of mine and it took us a long time to figure out what was causing the problem. If there are no wires check the weatherstripping around the door and the sealant around the windshield also check on the firewall and make sure that there's no holes exposed there from rubber grommets being pushed back in.

Seamsealer is used at factory joints on your vechicle.After time the stress that your body takes can make it crack thus giving a place for water to find.In my years of working the most common water leaks are seamsealer related.This includes all kind of different seamsealers including foam seals.If you have an air compressor you can check the windshield with ease.Take windex and spray on the outside of the windshield(around the rubber molding)and then take a blowgun and run it along the inside on the windshield(between the glass and interior trim).If you see air bubbles on the outside,you have found your leak.If that doesn't work you will need to take off your cowl and look for cracked seamsealers or make sure the drains aren't plugged up.Also check around the heater box.Gut some interior and hose it down on the outside,look on the inside to see if any water is coming in.If you see it running,grap a flashlight and follow.I have found a really weird water leak one time on a Cavy.Where the wire harness came through the firewall,The wire loom was turned upside down(crack on top)and water ran into it and then drained into the interior.That one took me awhile to find.I have seen on here about people talking about getting pro water leak fixers.I found a water leak they couldn't find after 3 tries.So to say I lost faith in them.So don't waist your money on them.Hope this helps.
