Jetta transmission conversion help

Here is the question...... How much work/cost is involved to convert a manual transmission to automatic. My kid is turning 16 and He just cant get the hang of a 5 speed but my old 95 Jetta is totally mechanically sound so I am toying with the idea of having it converted.
