rear main seal

how tough is it to replace a rear main seal on a 2001 grand prix gtp?

Trans has to come out!! Make sure that is where the leak is coming from, very unusual source of leaks on these engines. Oil pan gasket seem more common.

actually thats a really common area for a leak on the GP's,currently mine has that same problem, a ford dealer quoted me at 900 bucks to fix it, which was suprisingly low for a dealer, but eh, shit happens

I've never seen a main seal on these engine leak anywhere near what the pans do, and it looks like a main seal ,very hard to tell without cleaning it up thoroughly and checking.
