can you just replace the pully on the belt tensioner or do you have to replace the whole assembly ?

Some manufacturers offer just the pulley & bearing for the tensioner. However, if the tensioner has a substantial amount of miles on it, you're better off replacing the whole tensioner assembly and be done with it. Replacing only the pulley is an inexpensive, easy way to repair it. Replacing the complete tensioner assembly would be considered doing the job right.

I'd have to agree with that. The pully most times is only a couple of dollars less than the entire assembly.

I would replace only the pulley. It is very easy and the last one I got was only about $8.

Ditto on just the pulley. Is it squeeling? My '93 s10 was squeeling and I replaced just the pulley. It went back to normal and has stayed that way ever since. And the pulley was cheap :D.

had the same problem, and simply replacing just the pulley did the tricks.

I have to agree in replace the whole assembly. It only cost a few $'s more. If your pully bearings are bad, then the spring tension has got to be weaker. Just replace it. You'll feel better.
