exhaust noise

I'm again busy with an exhaust. I'm very close on buying an apexi N1 turbo rear section (an universal exhaust).
My normal (stock) piping is 47 mm ... the exhaust in-line diameter is 80 ! mm (the tip even 115 mm) . So I have to make (let make) a conversion pipe for this. What do you think of this? because the exhaust is normally used for turbo engine's and mine is just a 2 litre stock engine. I've heard it will produce a lot of sound when I do this. (that's not what I want for low revs (below 4000))

The Apexi N1 is one of if not the loudest exhaust on the market. It's supposed to be ridiculously loud and I imagine the turbo version on you NA car wouldn't be the best setup.

Yeah, i couldn't agree more with TheMasterG, the Apexi is really loud. Even when just on idle. As you say you don't want to much noise below 4000rpm i suggest you go with an exhaust with noise killer. I don't know if they exist for an Apexi, but for sure it comes without if you buy it.

I want to order a 'noise killer' with it, apexi makes them and they say it will drop the sound 7 db... that's 4 times less loud than without a noise killer. I hope this will kill the noise enough then?
Any other advice for an universal muffler for a reasonable price?

Iīd buy a complete system or keep it stock. Just a muffler wonīt give you any gain and catback systems sound better IMO. But thatīs just my opinion. ;)
Other "good" muffler brands are Supersprint, Remus, Sebring, Fujitsubo, Powerrohr, Laser,... Personally Iīd say Supersprint is the best of them.

I know it will give me no power gain, I just do it for the sound and the looks. I've looked at all 'more known' brands here in europe like sebring remus supersprint, but they have only ugly exhausts for my car. With ugly I mean 'german-style' (sorry veetec). I want a jap style.
I also tried simota at avb, but they haven't got one for my car.

No no, Iīm feeling the same about it! I donīt like all these boxy looking mufflers anymore, too.
I think youīre going the right way but personally I wouldnīt get an Apexi N1 because itīs really damn noisy like G has mentioned before. And you might get problems with the cops....
Maybe a Thermal R&D??

Thermal R&D is really expensive what i've seen... I'm still waiting what the price will be for the apexi... when it isn't to much I take the risk of the noise .... I hope it'will get lower with the noise killer in it.
Otherwise I'll probably drive to tss-tuning and put one under there. a nice german (:D) jap-style exhaust.

Quiet cat backs that i've heard are the quietest are the Apexi WS and the RS*R. Mufflers with dual tip will make you feel as if the muffler was inside the car. Hella rumbling noise

Jetex are nice exhausts, very subtle noise on tick over with a real nice deep note higher up the rev range and without the horrible drone you can get on long highway runs, available for pretty much every car. Not very loud though if thats what your after.
