theres a guy on ebay selling his DHP computer. he said its for a 2003 gtp i have a 1998 gtp im assuming it will still work but i dont know if it will for sure. i know the 1998 and the 2003 have little to no difference so that makes me assume it will but he said he tried it in his 2001 and worked fine. im guessing it will work. anyone know for sure if a 2003 aftermarket DHP computer will work in my 1998 grand prix.

why the hell did they change this site all around it looks and seems to confusiing now. why cant they just leave things the way they are.

I don't know about that but I'd be careful assuming the PCM will work on your year model. Physically they look the same but I am quite sure there are variances in the programming routine especially from 2000 and up versus 98. I know for a fact DHP needs your year model and VIN number before either re-programming one sent in or when exchanged. You might contact DHP just to be sure before finding out you bought a bag of worms no matter how good the cost. Their link is below:

Good luck!

Bob..You like the way they designed this site now? I was also looking at some compters and found one on PFYC.com It looks like it will take off the speed gov. and do a few other things as well.
Anything new down there? How is the weather?

dont buy it. The MAF's in the pcms are different. buy a 98 specific pcm (around 100-150 used from some ppl) or just have a good friend reprogram it for you with a powrtuner
general rule goes like this
97-independant
98-independant
99-02-interchangable
03-independant
thats just from what people have said works good on clubgp

The PCM for a 2000 year model is also classified as independent due to programming whereas the '99, '01 and '02 are the same. The PCM for a 98 will work in a '97.5 GTP and have the same programming but not in the early production '97.

Another compelling reason why it is not a good idea to use someone elses PCM especially if you ever need to get service from GM is because a Tech II diagnostics machine will reference the year, model and VIN number. DHP and Intense program this into the new PCM. If the correct model year is not programmed into the PCM along with the VIN the Tech II machine will get mixed up and use 1999 settings and parameters and the tech will not be able to properly run diagnostics or service your vehicle. This will hold true if a case learn is required.

If you are on a beer budget for mods, also consider the Intense PCM which is a lot cheaper than the DHP. $99 versus $214. Plus you can get more radical programming on an Intense when you run mods like roller rockers or a camshaft through the custom programming option still for a lot less than DHP.

intense pcm is junk. you get what you pay for. Ask around on clubgp or your local gp chapter

I have both. I run a DHP for street use and the Intense for the drag racing season. No problems with either.

BTW - I'm the Secretary and one of the founders of the local GP Club.

Any other unfounded wise remarks?

you must be an intense groupie.. ive heard many complaints about intense pcms.. If your really serious about modding just buy a powrtuner and tune it yourself

How is that so? I have both DHP and Intense re-programmed PCMs so how does that make me an Intense groupie. :screwy:

What experience do you personally have with Intense re-programmed PCMs other than what you have heard at Club Med, .....excuse me Club GP?

I'm serious about modding and I don't need to waste money on a Powrtuner to get the end result.

i was curious on your mods. is that all you have done is headers, exhaust, zzp stg1 tb, intake, 103's, 3.25, and dhp? is that 1.9 60 with DR's? I suppose you dont have a use for a PT with your mods as of now

Why, do you know anyone selling one for cheap?

But seriously if you it will give you any satisfaction I use Autotap on a Dell laptop to monitor KR, MAF, 02 sensor, and other pertinent parameters for the past 3 years. I'm not interested in modifying any of the PCM programming on my own and reflashing at this point in time. But the Powrtuner would probably come in handy one of these days.

I recently installed SLP 1.8 roller rockers and pushrods for the next racing season. Also, last spring I had installed a cold air intake tuneable calibrated MAF sensor LS1 style. The location for the stock MAF sensor on the throttle body is sealed up. My spare Intense PCM is already programmed for the above.

If I get into the high 12s this season I'll be happy. I don't plan on blowing my tranny if I can help it.

Hey GTP2k2, you're barking up a big tree going after bnaylor. He's a true asset here and has helped a LOT of people, so tread carefully. Didn't mean to hijack your thread 98gtpking, but had to put in my 2 cents.

Welcome to the forums BTW GTP2k2, just be more careful stating opinion as fact, and whom you butt heads with, as Bob is quite well thought of on here. We value all input, and the more the merrier, just try not to sound so confrontational next time.

hey I wasn't offended or anything, some people may have trouble with them but I'm happy with mine...

Its like that with any company though... You can ask one person and its God's gift to the automotive world, ask the next person and its useless junk...

I try to just find "popular" companies and give them a shot... SO far its worked out fairly well for me...
