I recently bought a 90 civic dx 2ith a 5 speed from a guy for $40. YES, $40. anyway, the motor runs like a top, no smoke and the car has 180,000 miles. my problem is that when i put it into gear, i can feel it shift in but when i let off the clutch, nothing happens. the clutch is only about 4 months old. sometimes, it will go into gear, but will only go about 100 feet and then slip out. Is the transmission blown? if it is, how hard is it to pull those motors and change transmissions? im used to working on RWD V8's. thanks, matt

most likely it's the trans. your best off replacing it with a used or rebuilt trans since parts to rebuild yours will be expensive. As far as removing the trans and/or engine on a 4th gen civic, it's as easy as it gets. It takes me 20 minutes to remove the trans alone or with the engine.
