hi i'm new to forums. its seem the thing to try. i know cars. i need to know what car and years i can put a 1.9 ford escort motor in. i have one with 16000 miles in a total car. how do you folks find out such info.

What I know of, you can use the 1.9 from any Escort LX with a 1.9 liter from 1991-1996. You can get them from Escort wagons/sedans/hatchbacks, and if memory serves me right you can get them out of Mercury Tracer hatch/sedan/wagons as well, just as long as it has that 1.9L engine. Try www.car-part.com ,and search for your year car, it'll bring up everything that is interchangable. Welcome to the Forums.

Wait, I wonder if Scott missed your point. You mean you HAVE a 1.9L and are looking for what cars are good to pop it into? I guesst he point is the same though, yes the Merc Tracer is an Escort clone so everything matches.

But, you should know - the 1.9 isn't a wonderful motor, HP/Torque wise. 93 hp I think? Not an ideal power plant to toy around with.

I would go look for a 1991-1996 escort GT with a 1.8L DOHC. if you set them up right it's fast as shit. i have a 94 EGT and so far it has beat acura integras, older 5.0 mustangs, and just resently i have raced a 1989 I-ROCK comaro by 3 car lengths. the kid was shitting himself. it will smoke a honda any day. you just have to know WTF you are doing. so far i took my 1.8 to the machine shop had it all rebuilt. i got new pistons, crank, flywheel, clutch, head port and polished, cam gears, cams, springs, valves, pullys, the list goes on. I run low 13's high 12's. and remember weight reduction is a MUST! good luck!

The 1.9 will fit in any year of Escort/Lynx/Tracer. Even the 2.0 late model cars had the same engine mounts as far as I know. You'd be better off to look into an '81-'90 first gen, though, as theyr'e the easiest, and best. If you have any questions, let me know, and I'll answer them to my best. I've done some work on those years...a lot, actually. You can also fit the 1.9 in a tempo, as it uses the exact setup as an Escort for the engine, just make sure you get a manual, the 1.9's were slooooow with an auto. So go look for a '81 to '90 Escort, or '84 to '94 Tempo with a dead engine, and that'll be easiest.

thank you very much. i had no idea i could look for a tempo as well. i know tempos well i have own one since 84 but never had a motor go. so if i understand you right i could get a 93-94 tempo and put the 2002 1.9 motor and 5 speed trans in very easy. again thanks

What year is your 1.9 motor? Ford stopped making 1.9's in 96 and your saying it's a 2002? Do you have the 2002 2.0 SOHC or the 2.0 DOHC motor? Plus you need to be carfull with inbreading newer motor's with an older chassis, the older ford stuff requires a distributer, Escorts went to coil packs in 1991.

also, the Tempo shares the same engine bay as the 1st gen Escort only, starting in 91 Escorts went to a Mazda platform. So the tempo mounts wont be compatible with a motor newer then 91.
