a/c - heater vent question.

I have a 95 gt. Whenever I go to select either vent or floor or defrost etc on the ac panel inside the car, all it does, no matter what I have selected, is blow out the defrost vents. The temp gauge still works, and the hi med lo knob still works. It blows air out the defrost vent, no matter what I have selected. It does shut off when I turn it to off. Any ideas?? THX!!

Dont know if you got this fixed fordforlife, but if not, do you heeear any hissing coming from under the dash when you turn the selector to say the floor or vent?
If thats not the case one of the levers on the unit maybe dislodged or broke. Was this just an all the sudden? or has someone been tinkering? lol!

i dont hear anything but the defrost vents. Actually, I have not been tinkering. The air went out a couple months ago, and being winter I havent fooled with it. I just went to turn on the vent one day and it came out of the defrost, and has done that ever since. No unnusual/odd noises happen before or after.

Any idea what could have broken? Could it be some wires messed up or what? Also, someone was telling me it might be a vacuum leak....sound right or not?

I finally fixed the problem. Turns out it was a vacuum leak. There is a vacuum hose that runs behind the intake (95 gt, 5.0) that goes into the firewall and straight to the air. It had a hole in it. Repaired it and the selector knob works fine!! Hope this helps someone.

Good find fordforlife...I was already trying to figure out how to tell you where to look when I saw you had found the problem...I had the same problem on my 96 GT a while back...
