Reprogram the keyless remote?

I have a 93 Regal LS with keyless remote entery. The batteries in the remotes died. Apparently, when you take the batteries out or they die you have to reprogram the car. I was told to ground out the antenna unit in the trunk which will cause the keyless system to "open" for reprograming. The locks will unlock with a successful ground out and then the system is ready for reprogramming.

My problem is I cannot get the antenna unit to ground out. There is a wire that hangs off the antenna unit which is to be used for the ground out.

I have tried everything to get this unit to ground but cannot. Does anyone have any idea how to reprogram the system?

Jump the (ALDL) Assembly Line Diagnostic Link. You will find this connector under the driver side dash, but you will have to look through a square cut out in the panel to see the connector, it is recessed behind that panel, almost directly under the steering column.

Jumper pin A to pin G with a fused jumper (3A)
Doors will lock and unlock
Press the UNLOCK button on the remote
Doors should lock and unlock again
if you have more remotes press their unlock button (up to 4)
remove jumper wire

You can use a paperclip, just bend it out and insert one end in each slot.

I have a 1994 Buick Regal Custom with a keyless entry system. It has never worked since I have owned the vehicle. I replaced the batteries in the remote. Now I have to reprogram it. I have tried a few of the tricks on this board and none have seemed to work.

1. I tried shorting the wires in the ALDL, nothing happened
2. I tried grounding the wire in the trunk, nothing happened
3. I tried holding the door unlock and putting the key in and removing it twice and then putting it in a third time. The doors all made a clicking sound, then I released the door unlock button and held the lock and unlock on the remote, it made a crazy sound like some gears were stripping. I thought it had worked, but unfortunately it didn't.

I was wondering if anybody had any ideas, and also if anybody can give me some directions on how to remove the unit. If i try without any guidance, I'm gonna break something and rip apart my entire back seat.

thanks for any input on my situation

The jumper doesn't work for the '93 since there's nothing to jump to in the "G" slot. It's empty. There are only 4 wires connected to the ALDL and the position is not one of them. Sorry.

Thanks for the input. I got it fixed, the box wasn't working. I took the receiver apart and resoldered the chips onto the board. After that, I tried the wire in the trunk and bingo. It works

What did you ground to in the trunk? and what did you use to ground it out? I'm wondering if I'm doing it wrong. Thanks to the earlier post I now know there is not a G port on the ALDL for a 93. It was pretty frustrating not getting it to work.

On my 94 Custom, there is a lead coming off the harness in the trunk next to / at the power antenna. The lead has kind of a sheath over the metal end, probably so that is doesn't short by accident. I push this end down on top of the power antenna so that the metal makes contact. When it does, you should hear the locks and the trunk release (which will scare the p.. out of you). Then you should be able to reprogram a mentioned above.

Good Luck

^^^that is correct, you are not grounding the radio antenna, you need to ground the lone wire that is near the antenna in the trunk, you may need to pull back some of the carpet.

Yeah so nothing seems to be working :banghead: so I am just going to use the key. Thanks for all your help. I might break down some day and take the back seat out to change the thingamajig and see if that works.
