1974 vette brake problem

Recently, I took my vette out for a drive and noticed that the brakes did not have their full stoping power and the brake light came on eventually. The car will still stop, but not as well as it used to and the light will come on and off at different times. If I pump the brakes, the light will go off eventually as well. It is not leaking any brake fluid. Has anyone had a similar problem or have any ideas what is wrong?

Hi jfpty5 -

That sounds like an internal leak in the master cylinder.

best regards -

The problem has gone away for now. I have driven it a few times in past two weeks and the brakes worked fine. Hopefully they continue to work. Thanks for your help.

I would bleed the master and the brake system. Run at least a pint through it to flush the whole system. It will take on water from sitting without regular use. If you still have the bypass problem, replace the master.
