Heater fan blowing fuses 96 Contour

I have been dealing with a wierd problem with my Heater/AC fan.
When the fan is on and running it blows the fuse when the selector is put in the floor or defrost position no matter what speed the fan is on.
I replaced the resistor pack and plug even though there was no evidence of burning.

The fan works fine when blowing from the front vents.

No I haven't taken it to the dealer. Just got it back from my son. Now trying to repair everything he neglected. I will take it as a last resort.

you might want to check the specs to see if the right fuse is in, if it is i might suggest raising the fuse raiting and be done with it but it is up to you.

Thats the worst advice anyone could ever give!!! :eek: Dont ever ever EVER raise the amp rating on a fuse! Thats a good way to just have a total meltdown for that particular part or even worse, an engine fire. They have specific amp ratings for a reason.

Btw, I would take it into the dealer as a first resort. Recall fixes are absolutely free.

Thanks guys but I found the problem. After thinking about it for a while I realized that when the selector is put into the defrost you are sending power to the compressor which I beleive is shorted since it locked-up over the summer. I disconnected the compressor and wha..la, no more blown fuses.
