changing Timing belt

I called a dealership to see what it would cost to change the timing belt on a 2001 rodeo $550 for the belt and and timing belt tensioner and an extra $160 for a water pump. The auto parts store has the belt for $70 but the tensioner is $225. My rodoe has 112K on it.

My question is this do I need the timing belt tensioner???

At 112,000 It has to be on its last legs. Kind of like the water pump... it might be working now, but for how much longer. Considering the labor involved I think you're asking for a big headache in the near future if you don't change it now.
I have found them for quite a bit less $ online, usually with free shipping.

If you go thru all the work to tear into that job, it's silly not to change the water pump, tensioner and tensioner pusher. You have to touch all that for a T-belt changeout anyway. With your rodeo being a 2001, I wouldn't touch any of it until ~120Kmi, (just my opinion). Around $700 would be a typical dealer service charge. Dealers charge around $600 for a single axle brake job these days! :disappoin

yes change the tensor. THe new taught belt will kill the old tensor within 10k. Which will then sound like rod know and probably cost 500 bucks to change it out again.

Call St. Charles automotive in MO to price the parts. Should be much cheaper.

Says it's for the DOHC... I would check the specs closely before purchasing.
