i was approched to trade my 87 mc ss wich i put a 350 .30 over in it has roughly 1200 miles on it and body is solid, t-tops for a 1997 pontiac trans am, with lt-1 and 120k on it?

Personally, I would keep the Monte if it is in good shape. The TA is probably faster depending on what has been done to your engine in the MC, but IMO the Monte is rarer, and would be more of a collector car down the road. :2cents:

Stick with the monte. You put your time into the ss not the transam.

I would also keep the Monte. It's your car and you built it up. So, you know the car. You know if there are any problems and also the history of the car, how it was taken care of and it's reliability. The TA could be a disaster waiting to happen and/or could have been beat to hell and who knows what else. Plus the TA has high miles on it. In my opinion, you would be trading down.

The other thing someone mentioned is that your Monte is going to be a collector's car, where as the Trans Am's are kind of a dime a dozen. The Monte's (especially the SS) will be sought after down the road like the Chevelle's, Camaro's, 442's etc. from the '60's to basically '72 are sought by collector's now.

You also mentioned wanting some more HP. All you gotta do is spend a few bucks on that 350. The things you can do to those motors are basically limit-less. I don't know what has been done allready, but an intake, Headers and a good true dual exhaust and a Carb are 4 pretty cheap bolt-ons that will definitely make a noticable difference in performance. A new Cam would make a BIG difference too, but that can get expensive.

Anyway, just my opinion. i know that my '85 Monte is not going anywhere. It was my first car, and I'll probably own it the rest of my life....
