Throttle Body Spacer

can you put a throttle body spacer and a cold air intake on an 01 Z71 with the 5.3L. I have been told that the air intake pipe conflicts with the fan. Or is the throttle body spacer worth it? If it is, what brands can I do this with. The Volant CAI has struck my attention.
Thanks

TB spacers make a nice paperweight. Do a search in the forum for it. Don't waste your money. Air intakes designed to fit your truck will fit your truck. Welcome to the forum

Say what you will about the TB spacer. I have one, and when I have to take it off for smog purposes, I can notice a difference. Just my :2cents:

Does it the truck more power when you remove the spacer?

Maybe less weight when removed?

Every little bit helps ;-)

My buddy has a spacer on his SS s-10, makes a funny whistle noise

noticeable acceleration difference and a little more pedal, and mine makes that same whistling noise.

hate to diappoint u guys but those spcers only work on a carb. on anything else they are a waste of money if u wanna buy one send me ur cash and i will tell u ur truck will go faster. and i will take ur money and run. its pretty much the same thing

Well, they work on the old TBI engines, too. But, basically, they only work on engines with a TB or carb sitting on top of the engine, in which case they make it almost like a high rise intake manifold

Everyone I know that owns a Silverado around home has one..they swear it works. i personally when riding with them, tell no difference. Even the HEMI my buddy's got didnt gain much if any.

TB spacers on a wet intake allow the fuel and air a little more time to mix before getting into the cylinders which gives you more power. on a dry intake youre just making the distance from the throttle blades to the cylinders longer which does nothing for you. give me good dyno numbers that show a tb spacer gives you noticeable power and ill give you the gold brick i just crapped out :) i trust nobody's opinion on more power for the simple fact that if someone wants to feel a power difference with something like this theyre going to feel it. i have people try to tell me that those tornado things work. i just laugh.

Hell no they dont. They decrease mileage by at least 1mpg instead of increasing it.

I have the K&N FIPK kit on my truck I did have a problem fitting it in with the fan cover there. I thought about notching out the fan cover but I didn't want a crappy ass look so I just shoved it in and hoped. It's been almost two years and I pulled it off the other day to clean out the throttle body (sticky pedal caused by gunk buildup) and all it had was a very minor rub mark on it. I do get that whistle though when I'm at very low RPMs in over drive and I tap the gas every so lightly.

What did you use to clean your TB?

I think the first thing I tried was some Gunk Remover (don't remember the brand) and I think the stuff that worked was just simple ole 2+2. I have cans for that type of cleaning and I Just reached over my shoulder and grabbed them. I wanna say it was 2+2 though, it took a little arm grease to work it out but I got a decent amount of black crap out. I was having a the problem of my gas pedal would be very hard to push down than when you finally did you'd mash the hell out of it and chirp the tires. I got used to it but my wife would take off some rubber every time. I thought the throttle adjuster had some type of magnet in it so your pedal wouldn't fly down so easily but I took off the intake and could see a buildup in there. I also just sprayed a dab of a simple lubricant on my finger and put it around where the buildup was.

Try using carb cleaner. That's what I used and it took off the dirt with ease. Didn't even have to use any elbow grease. Just sprayed and wiped off a whole bunch of black. I wanna say Brakleen was the brand of the cleaner. Also after I cleaned it real well I took a dremel to the throttle body and polished it up real nice.

I have looked into getting an Air Raid 1" spacer for my truck. Most all brands I came across said do not install if you have FIPK.

I have a spacer with a FIPK, but I have electric fans. Food for thought.
