Within the next few days, I plan on doing a little work on my Blazer. I got 4 new rotors from AutoZone. I went to Advance Auto and bought 4 new calipers, all new pads, 2 upper ball joints, 2 lower ball joints, a new air filter, and 6 AC Delco platinum plugs. I also got the stuff to do a fluid swap for the tranny. When everything was totaled up it was lower than I had estimated... I didn't know why at the time. When I got home I was going over the receipt and figured out what happened..... they only charged me for 1 spark plug, but gave me 6. That means that I just got a new set of AC Delco plats for $1 each. :)

EDIT: This started out as a positive thread, but skip down to post # 18.

Nice, was it by chance a woman behind the counter?Reason i ask is back in november when i bought the pushrods for the V8 the woman behind the counter only rang up the one pushrod instead all 16 so i got 16 for 1.32 instead of like 25-28 bucks.

Well perhaps I'm not so lucky after all. While taking off from a red light today, something let go in my Blazer. It started making an extremely loud banging noise, and the whole thing jumps when it does it. It's definitely something in the drive train. I limped it into a gas station and had someone come pick me up. Luckily I know a guy with a roll back, he's going to go pick it up later this afternoon (free of charge) and bring it home. I suspect that the rear end took a shit, but won't know for sure until it gets home and I tear into it.

As for all the requests for the balljoint how-to.... I'll see what I can do, but as for now, that work has been put on hold.

Ahh sounds like some of the luck I am having. I still have not figured out exactly what is wrong with mine but I know its something internal in the engine. Knocking noise, no power loss at all, just noisy as heck. Since its fairly warm here today I am going to pull off valve covers and look in there today.

Hey Blazee, I feel for ya bro, The rearend on my blazer was replaced just before the Warranty ran out at the Dealership. Cost was around $2800.00
to GM. EVERYTHING WAS NEW INCLUDING ROTORS AND PADS....
Good Luck...
ALSO AN IDEAL TIME FOR A HOW TO ON REAREND'S, JUST A THOUGHT...

I found another rear end. It's a G80 with disc brakes just like my old one. I went and picked it up today. ($550 with a 6 month warranty) I pulled the old one and and have got the new one in. I've got to finish the brake lines and brakes. I have to install the driveshaft, but I'm going to go ahead and put in new U-joints first. After putting the new one in, I decided to call it a day, it's a pain in the ass to change on out by yourself. Took me a little over four hours to get this far. When I get a chance I take some pictures of the old one. The ring and pinion gears are shattered.

Jeremy Fitch

Wow that really does look bad. When mine went out on the camaro they didn't even look that bad and I had it hammered tires burning when it went.

Were you by chance showing some punk kid with stickers all over his rice what real American trucks can do then this lol?

blazee
01-22-2006, 06:26 AM
It seems to be caused by a weakness in the design. They used a crushsleeve instead of solid spacers in these things. The crushsleeve will give under stress (I had it hammered) and allow the pinion to run up on the ring gear, causing a misalignment of the teeth, which basicallly then destroys them.

It's got it, nothing special though. It had a G80 and I replaced it with another G80. It's a 99 rear with 70,000 miles disc brakes, etc. cost me $550 and came with a 6 month warranty.
