Which way to TARGA TOP ?

When I first realized that I would never rest until I owned a 2G, I dreamed of going all out by building up the subframe, then chopping the top of the roof off and making it into a targa top.

Today, I ran across some early drawings. Does everyone think it would be easier to start with a no sunroof style and cut it out (building a frame for support ofcourse).

Or start with an Eclipse Spider and take the hatch and maybe a rear section of a wrecked unit.

I know this will be adding weight either way, but you would end up with AWD with the first idea.

I wouldn't start with a spyder. It's quite a bit difference in the back end. I'd reinform the frame. Maybe add a roll cage and then cut it. GSX targa 2g oooOOooo

i would love to see a awd targa 2g, i saw a gs targa top before and it looked sick, post some of your drawlings

Best idea IMO, would to ask him. He has a targa top 2g GS (turboed).

My friend is transplanting his built motor and setup from his 1g to a 2g and he is gonna targa top it. It should look sexy when its all done. A black 2g Eclipse... I'll take some pictures for you guys when he gets it all done. Probably be a few more months until its finished.

everyone who'd done it says the torsional twist was too much. I remember reading one thread even after the guy had a full cage on it, and plenty of reinforcement, the car would twist too much, and wasn't stable at highway speeds.

Anyway, I think that a targa eclipse would be sweet, but I can see where you'd run into problems. I was thinking about doing a targa 2g as well, for a while anyway. I was going to just make a roll cage and go from there, I figured it would give the car the support it needs. I decided not to do it though, seeing as how I am a broke ass. ;)
