How do you check tie rod ends?

'97 Silverado, 2WD, auto, 5.7 vortec. Steering wheel has some shimmy when making wide right turns over 30 mph. Not going slower or under other conditions. Jacked up front end and tested by pulling tires at top and bottom, then side to side. Only movement was on left front tire at side to side (3 & 9 o'clock) and it was very slight. Put on new tires recently but no change in the shimmy. Any ideas on what to check next? Idea of price if it is a tie rod end? Thanks for any help.
