i have a full drag car (1967 volkswagen bug) that i race at the local track and when i break something it takes a couple of weeks to get a part so i want a car that i can race when i break something so i figured i would buy a 95 eclipse and it would be my first import and i would like something reliable so if you would give me some replies on how reliable these cars are

As long as you take care of them and maintain them they can be as reliable as any other car. You can even have one that runs 13's (as long as its a Eclipse GST or GSX or a Talon TSi) and its still be a reliable daily driver. If you go with lower models like an Eclipse RS GS or Talon ES they won't have much power at all but they will be reliable.

Personally I would go with the GST GSX or TSi because they produce incredible amounts of power while still retaining reliability and good fuel mileage.

will a low shot of nitrouse hurt a stock motor

Blackcrow64
01-13-2006, 01:18 AM
Not at all. On the turbocharged models, the stock internals can handle up to 400hp before needing upgraded.

You know what's going to happen right? You're going to end up focusing more on the Eclipse than your VW. It's inevitable.

Hmmm.... isn't a volkswagoan an import? Get a turbo, probably awd (depends on how serious you are) and then you will see the light. BTW I was looking at a summit catalog today and you can get a complete race engine rebuild, including new cylinders (they must have replaceable cylinders), and gaskets, for less than $300!!!!!!!

For our cars??? I didn't see that in the newest one.

Oh I meant for vw's sorry. That would be fucking sweet, I don't think can get stock pistons for our cars for that cheap!

The DSMs were built right here in the USA, in Normal, Illinois and are not an import. Where was your VW built? ;)

That has nothing to do with if it's an import or not. These cars are still considered imports. Ask an insurance company.

Well that has always been the debate hasn't it? If it's not imported then it's not an import. Period. I don't consider it anymore of an import that I do a talon, or a lazer. That is your and the insurance company's opinion. I was just making a point. The eclipse would not be his first import if he already owns a German car. I really do not want to get into this discussion. I should have known better than to post that because I know all you guys want to do is argue about everything, and I bet anything you won't let this go. I am done with it.

i know vw are tecnicaly imports but this will be my first street racer or stereotypicl import racer and i want to buy a good reliable car that wont have many problems even with minor engin upgrades because some people swear even a small shot of nitrouse will mess an engine up and as for the bike dudes and hot rode guys a was refering to bikers like harley and indean ect im sure they dont us nitrouse and the hot rod guys i ment the ones who leave everything stock and would like to put every one who owns an (import) in jail because they dont like them you know the ones im talking about

ok i have been looking for a while now and i can not find a eclipse like i want.i have looked all over the net but i couldnt find one within 200 miles of me and the ones i found were not the year model awd or turbo pluse they were to much money for what they were

there was one 97 fwd and not a turbo for ($6000.00)just a bit much with dents down the side

The nice 2g GSX or TSI AWD will be expensive as hell. Your not looking for a very common car, and the people that are selling them know what they have. Good luck, you may have to wait awhile before you find one worth buying.

im not real woried about dents or something like that cause im will put a body kit on and paint it but i still think ($6000.00) is to much for a 97 and no performance parts on it and still had dents down the side

i think i could do without the turbo just how much more hp do you get with one. but im still gots ta have awd

You should check the classified section on DSMTuners... Theres always pretty good deals on there. I saw a few 2g's that were 4500 dollars with some upgrades already. Not too shabby if you ask me... Anyways, heres a link to it for you.

Only some of the turbo models came in AWD, none of the N/T. It will be extremely difficult to get over 250 hp on the N/T model without turboing it, so your best bet is to go with the turbo eclipse/talon right off the bat.

but you can turbo an awd nonturbo it would be a bit harder to put awd on car with fwd right

but if i put a turbo on a noturbo how reliable would the motor be see back were it all began

Non turbo's never came in AWD, unless you're asking if it would be hard to do it, www.automotivearticles.com the subsidiary of this site, did an AWD conversioin.

but if i put a turbo on a noturbo how reliable would the motor be see back were it all began

With low boost and the right ECU management it could be somewhat reliable but you're better off in the long run 'getting one that's already turbo'd' as people keep saying.

In my opinion its just better to say American company or Japanese Company. Still don't know what to call the DSM's since they were a combination of the two. So I'm just gonna stick with DSM company
