i bought a 98 automatic cavalier from a friend a while back and im getting sick of the muffler noise.
he had a pacemaker (i belive) exhaust system put on. from the catylic converter back. that parts fine but the muffler that is on it right now produces more of a tinny rattleing sound. its fine accelerating but just annoys me when im talking to somone in the car and it starts sounding like its rattleing apart.
now ive searched and ive found that most will say magnaflow is my best bet. but im looking for some type of muffler that will produce more of a deeper sound. i dont want it real loud. quiet at idle but just the deeper smoother sound when i accelerate a little louder then the stock mufflers.
so any specific mufflers would be appreciated.
thanks

I bet the muffler you have is a canister style muffler, round and maybe 1 inch larger diameter than the pipe. If you want a deeper sound find a large oval shaped racing muffler with a straight through design. I have a naxos racing muffler I bought used off by brother in-law. He had it on his honda accord, it sounded great on the honda, but it sounds even better on the chevy! It has a 7 inch tip that tapers down to around a 3 inch hole, but it's all one piece, muffler and tip. Beautiful rich, deep, rumbly sound! I love it...

well the inlet pipe is 2.25"
and the oultet tip on the muffler is 4"
so i need something with 2.25" inlet. i dont really care much about the size of the outlet.
the magnaflow race mufflers say specifically "for race only" but you can still use them on street right?
