OK, first off you guys rock, I know I ask allot of newb questions but.... I am a newb to Jeeps, and I can always find the answers here you have all been very helpful.
I have been reading on here and in other forums (googling it) about axles and I can not figure out what gears I have, I thought I had 3:78's but I was on a forum a bit ago - and this is a quote....."As for power, the 4-cylinder is not bad. For off-road, it is more effective than the 6-cylinder because of the 4:10 gearing vs. the 3:78 (I believe)." can anyone verify this? I have 2.5 5 spd SE Sport
I went to the Dana web site but didn't get to far, I've been everywhere I could think of and am not figuring it out, but than again to my first point I am a newb.. :confused: Is there somewhere I can put my VIN or something in and it will tell me? I couldn't find a tag on my diff. and I know that is one way to check.
Anyway I would appreciate any help you guys can give THANKS!!

Youve probably got 4.10s. Jeep does some oddball things but every 2.5 with 5 spd Ive seen has 4.10s (also known as 4.11s but practically the same). The 3.78s you speak of are actually 3.73 (no such thing as 3.78s) and they generally come on 4.0 Jeeps with 5 spd and 30" tire package or 2.5s with the 3 spd auto trans but this is not an absolute. The dealer can tell you what gears by the vin. You can also count how many rotations of the driveshaft per one complete tire rotation but its going to be tough to tell the difference between 3.73s and 4.10s that way.
The 4 cyl doesnt do bad until you start adding larger tires and the weight of skid plates and tools for off roading, then it can quickly become a dog.

Ok thanks allot, I thought it was 3:73's until I read that post and it said 3:78. Anyways I thought it being a SE it would have the 3:73 but it seems like I have to shift real early like around 12 - 13 mph and someone told me it should be 4:10, so I thought I would check into it. Thanks again
