Stalling

Hi guys! I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado with the big block engine(V8, 8.1L). Within the last 6 months the truck has started stalling. We changed the fuel filter, but after a month or so it started all over again. It seems to stall while accelerating and I could usually get it to refire by stomping on the gas, but today it died and would not turn over for awhile. When I was able to restart it, the service engine light came on and stayed on. What am I looking at here as far as potential problems and is it going to cost an arm and a leg to fix?

If it is driveable, I would take it to an auto parts store and let them hook up their code reader. When the SES light comes on, the computer produces an error code. When they read the code, they can tell you what it means.

It could be the fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator. ( I think thats right)

Sounds like another fuel presure regulator to me.

Thanks for the replies. It is going to be towed into a dealership(yikes!) Monday where they are going to hook it up and read the codes. But in all my searches as to probable causes I came up with nothing. I am going to research the fuel pressure regulator and the fuel pump. But I have also been told that it could be a faulty sensor that tells the spark plugs to fire. Is this a possibility or is someone feeding me a lot of bull.

The sensor that tells the coil when to fire on this truck is the cam position sensor.

Would the cam position sensor cause it to stall when accelerating?
