The key to my 91 firebird wont work properly. The chip is messed up or something. How if at all can I disable the stupid thing. I'm rebuilding the engine and audio a little bit and it really sucks that I cant turn the car on...please someone help. There has to be away, oter than buying a new kit.

Measure the resistance in the keys chip. Then you need to get a wiring diagram on your car and find the wire that feeds the computers anti-theft system. Once you know the resistance of the keys chip, go to Radio Shack or something and get that resistor and install it inline to that anti-theft wire. Basically, it tricks the computer into thinking the proper resistance key is in the ignition.

Had the same problem with mine.... I ended up going to a Caddy dealership down here gave them the vin# and they made me another key for like $35 or a little less cant remember exactly
