I know this has been discussed many times before, but i cant seem to find the threads that lead to this..im considering dropping a GS-T motor into my 1996 GS, what mods would have to be done to get it to work? besides the tranny swap and fuel pump and such?

Only possible for about 8k, a lot of custom work, and a lot of useless time. I've never seen one done and I don't think anyone else has either :uhoh: Sorry!

i think u have more luck putting the srt-4 motor in then the gst motor. the gs has a dodge motor and i herd or read somewhere the srt-4 can fit in the gs/rs eclipse....but then who do u know that has a srt-4 motor there not using?

i thought all that was needed was a new motor, a turbo ecu, and the ecu wiring harnesses, because the stock tranny can hold if you strap on a turbo kit for the 420a motor..?

ok compair my engine bay to |_eclipse_|. What do you see? everything is reversed so you would have to make all new mounts and alot of custom fabrication ect ect. cheaper to sell it and buy a turbo dsm

okay, well i have a certified auto mechanic that says he will install a turbo motor, with the ecu and ecu wiring harnesses, all for about 1500, and right now i have a blown motor as it is, think thats a good deal? or should i just try and sell my car as is?

What engine can I swap into my GS/RS ? - ashah000

The only engine that can be directly swaped is the one that is in there right now (the 420a).
You can swap a GS-T engine into the car but it would be extremely difficult and costly.

Here are the costs (from 2gnt)
1. 4G63 turbo engine (stock) $1500
2. transmission (stock GS-T FWD) $500
3. wiring harness for engine $300
4. 4G63 ECU (stock) $300
5. shift linkage $200
6. custom engine mounts $200
7. chassis cross member $100
8. complete exhaust $200
9. intercooler, turbo, related parts $500
10. boost gauge/fuel filter, etc $300
11. Installation $1500
Total - $5600

You can also swap in a 2.4L from a Dodge Stratus/PT cruiser. This is easier than the GS-T swap, however it does require some custom faberication. Also it would be backwards (the header would be on the firewall side)
for the record I found that in 30 seconds on the faq page. search next time. this topic has been covered a million times over

Just turbo your 420a there is plenty of kits out there for that

Much better suggestion, but if he has a blown motor, then just junk the car. Your mechanic does not know what he's talking about if he thinks he can do the swap for $1,500 and only those few parts.
