SAFC + TPS = High Idle... Why?

Well today I started installing my SAFC. I didn't finish it because I got bored and really wasn't in the mood. Need some other parts too. Anywho, I got everything except the actual MAP sensor In and Out hooked up. I know those are the most important, but I need to cut the wire at the ECU, and put a connector on it. Long story short, I didn't do it. I set up the SAFC the way people post and in all the help files. I turned the car on, and had 2 problems.
1) The rpm didn't work. It didn't work on the SAFC OR in the dash. Just totally dead. I disconnected the tach wire from the safc, and the dash worked fine. Why?
2) Car idled at 2000 rpm. It would dip to about 1500, but then go right back up. I disconnected the wire from the TPS to the SAFC, restarted, and it worked normally then. Why is this? Do I need to finish the MAP sensor and then everything will balance out? It seems like the car should idle fine because isnt the TPS hookup just basically a 'logger'?
Thanks all! I got pics and a little instruction manual for us 420a people coming soon.

Now that I think about it, the idle was high when the SAFC controller was disconnected. It only went down when the wire was cut. Since I'm using a DB9 serial cable with a male/female connector, I'm guessing that there is a bridge in the solder somewhere. I hate doing that
