Starting Problems

Alright maybe you guys can pint me in the right direction. I have a 1970 Chevy SWB, 350. The truck cranks fine in the morning once I get somewhere I have to wait about 1 to 2 hours for it to cool down before it wants to crank again. This happens only after I have been driving it for a while, also on longer drives it will slowly start to lose power lights fade radio comes in and out. Here is what I have checked so far, Battery is new, starter in new, alternator check out okay. Any suggestions on what to check next?

It sounds like an alternator to me, I would get it to act up and then take it back to the place that tested your alternator last time and have them test it while it is acting up. As far as the starting problem, are your battery cables tight? Are you getting 12+ volts to the starter on the battery wire? Are you getting power to the start wire when you turn the key to start? If you get 12+ volts to the starter when acting up and you are getting power to the start wire then I would say that the starter is bad. Hope this helps.

My first guess at the starting problem is andvanced timing. That would make it hard to start till it cooled off.

well the power problem was a bad alternator, still having the starting when hot issue. I will check the timing this weeked. Doesanyone know standard timing for a chevy 350?
