Hello there, I have an 86 prelude si 2.0 and I cant figure out what is up with it. When the engine is cold and the weather is cold, it will start right away. If its warm out, or the engine is warm, it takes a LONG time to start it. The engine turns over just fine, but it wont fire. Here's the catch; I can bump start it, but when it starts it gets loaded up. Also, if I hold the key on for a couple mins straight (I know, its not good, but I had to get it started) and held the gas down, it would eventually start and it would be loaded up again... I recently put in 4 new injectors, so I would rule that out since afterall, it DOES run fine once started...

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

are u sure the starters ok and make sure that the ignition or main relay isnt bad main relay would be under your steering wheel dash and that costs like 75 dollars but if it the ignition you would most likely be paying like 50 bucks if it isnt any of those three then ???maybe the Thermostat??? kinda new to the cooling sytem in these cars i just got mine and have run into a problem sorta like yours...

I am pretty sure the starter is fine, it turns the engine over. I have a few ideas, but dont really want to fork over a crapload of cash to hunt down the culprit. Anyone had this problem before?

If the main relay is bad (not sure if an 86 has a main relay) it will not BUMP start, know this from experience!

What do you mean by LOADED UP?? You said that you have replaced the injectors? If you step on the gas with a fuel injected car, NO fuel goes through the injector's. It's not like a car with a carb. where you step on the gas and fuel goes in.

By loaded up I mean the combustion chambers are loaded with fuel, i.e., I have to floor it to clear it all out (runs rough, too much gas loaded up)... hmm, I dont know much about F.I., honestly, because Ive never done any major work to this car (180k miles). If that is the case, maybe the fuel pump? I'm not sure why it starts early in the mornings, it boggles my mind...Hmm..

I've had the same problem with my CRX. Turned out to be the main relay, common problem for Hondas. I don't know if '86 ludes had the same problem.

Here's a good test: If you take a can of compressed air and hold it upside down the freon sprays out and freezes anything it touches. Next time it's hot and your car won't start spray the freon on the main relay to cool it, then try starting your car. If it starts you've found the problem.

like i said with fuel injected cars, when you step on the gas NO gas goes into the chamber it is not a a car with a carb.

May be the fuel pump but not sure. See if you do have a main relay? locaed on the left side of the fuse box.
