For some reason the Talons brake lights come on when the dude hits the clutch. Sounds strange as hell but that's what wrong with it. It's kinda funny cause you can time out the brake lights on the talon with the shifts in the GSX chase car.

So every time that guy shifts, his brake lights come on? :loser:
That guy can't drive worth a damn. The second time he shifted, the brake lights were on for almost three seconds, which leads me to believe that he didn't release the clutch for 3 seconds. :grinno:

maybe he rides the clutch for a bit after he shifts? Or he could have kind of a sticky clutch pedal? Hell I have no clue, it's strange as hell to me too.

if it was a fwd tsi maybe he was trying to keep from spinning
if it was an AWD tsi, maybe he was being nice to the drivetrain, either way the TSI shoulda had it, turn up the boost man...GRRR

Looks like the TSi wasn't in the power band when the Cobalt took off.

I wouldn't say the tsi would necessarily beat the ss, but I do imagine it would be even with the ss. I wouldn't call that an accurate representation of a tsi with those mods.

I dunno the whole deal either, but all the guys are buddies and none of them had any excusses about it. So ya got me on that one.

well the cobalt beat the other guy with the se-r down here, by 2 cars from what i heard. 20-115, he says he only has an intake, but i think he has more done.either that or the se-r driver messed up or his car is messed up.

Which se-r is this?
Altima SE-R, the guy is a pretty good driver and wanted to go from a 20mph roll, some how he lost to the cobalt by 2 cars and went up to 115mph, which if they raced in the 1/4 mile the cobalt should be damn close to 13s? is this possible with only an intake? or maybe it was less than 2 cars and the cobalt jumped on him on the take off? i guess ill race the guy and find out for myself.

Haha. A gsx with exhaust, sacf, mbc, and fp can run 12s. With all those mods even with fwd the driver must have been horrible to lose. I have a exhaust fp and boost at 16psi and I kill 99-04 gt stangs all the time.

if the talon reacted 1.5 seconds late, if he shifted .5 seconds slower than usuall... u get the point
racing flix at night can be tricky to the eye, i have a video of me racing and from the back, at a certain point it looked like i hit the brakes for about 2 seconds. but i didnt, its the reflection of light from certain angles.
all in all, very strange race

well I do think if that dsm has those mods and loses like that to a bone stock cobalt ss something has to come in play.....cause a tsi with those kinds of mods can beat stock cobalt times........

i agree, i want to see a slip with those mods as well as a vid, somehow i was under the impression that you needed at the least a 16g to get to 12's and prolly injectors and a dsmlink wouldn't be a bad choice either
that is if the car weighed anything above 2800lbs wet
stripping the car doesn't much count on the street

Higher flow injectors definetly would be a must. I'm surprised he wouldnt need them where he's at right now.

If UnderEstimate Me is talking about a 1g eclipse, 12s on that few mods has been done before by really good drivers on AWD (although I think you'd need to add some sort of modified intake to the list even if it is just running with the top of the airbox off). On a 2g, it would be very hard if not impossible. The T25 that came on the 2gs doesn't have near the potential of the 14B from the 1gs.
Check out this thread. It's old but definitely relevant.

I would have thought the TSI would have won with that mod list. Bad driver and/or bad tune I guess. I've definitely gained a lot of respect for the Cobalt from reading Bulldogs threads though.

I was following an SS the other day just playing around and I had a tough time keeping up, we were not racing, but it is definately a very quick car no doubt about it. And like someone said a driver can make all the difference.

those aren't quite the mods that were listed...
for example teh guy in that thread did IC piping, porting, and a little more work than just slapping on an MBC, free mods, tbe, and fp and turning up the boost to 21 psi
i assumed it would have to be a 1g, 2g's aren't notoriously fast on the stocker turbo

Yeah, you're right. I wonder how close to 12s it would be though using just the mods listed (assuming a good driver which is the big takeaway from this thread IMO)?
The IC piping makes a pretty big difference though. There was a thread in the DSM forum about a guy who gained 3-4 lbs/min airflow by changing out just the upper IC pipe (the biggest IC pipe restriction). It makes the likelyhood of 12s on just that mod list a bit more remote.
