Which gear should I use

Hi, I was just curious on something.
I know I should use D as my main gear of choice when I am taking my 99' Blazer 4x4 down the highway. But what gear should I be using in city driving or with speeds below 50mph. I can feel my engine being bogged down slightly when I use D at certain times. Now don't get my wrong, my engine still has pep, but I can feel the engine straining in that gear.
Thoughts?

It'll only shift into the next gear when you don't need the power and it'll get you better mileage.
Unless I'm towing a trailer I just leave my blazer on OD and let it do all the thinking for me.

I guess that I should say overdrive is the weakest gear on a transmission, and is not intended to be used tor towing or heavy loads.
A former boss of mine burned out his transmission towing with his new chevy 3/4 ton and they said no warranty because of that
