Catalytic Converter location

Hello,
I need a new exhaust because mine has rusted. I am going to buy another one, but dont know if I need a catalytic converter. On the link provided at the bottom, the larger round area near the top (end that goes to headers) the rounder part that is just behind the hanger, is that the cat, or something else? I will have to put a new exhaust from there back to the muffler. If the cat is further up, then I dont need one. If this correct?

the peice that you are talking about is the resonator. the cat is furthur up the exhaust. it bolts to the top or that exaust in the picture. you could either go to an exhaust shop and get a new one put on or buy a catback exhaust.

the cat is further up. either part of the header or right after the header. The cat is not in that pic on that link.

if you have a 96-00 civic si/ex, that exhaust is just remove and replace. if that is for any other 96-00 civic other than the ex/si, you will need the si/ex cat and header.
