Over the last few weeks I have been talking with Geoff from Full-Race about their front traction bars for the Toyota MR2 and my new bars just arrived today.

You can see a photo of mine below, or many of Full Race's photos here:

The write up on their Site on how this part works is much better than what I could ever explain.

Considering a lot of Hyde's front-end components had 200,000 miles on them, they were do for a check up. Add to that the kind of power we put down last year (over 400 rwhp) and what we are anticipating this year (well over 500 rwhp), along with the kinds of racing we are doing (hillclimbs and road races in '06!), we were looking for something that was up to the task of keeping this car planted and controllable.

My only concern with adding this part was it's weight, but I was very pleased that the shipping box only indicated 18 lbs and I suspect it a bit less than that. When I did Hyde's "big diet" 2 years ago I lost almost 150 lbs in front of the driver so I am happy to put a little back, especially with how low this weight will be on the car.

A big thanks to Geoff and the great people at Full Race for developing this innovative product.
I anxiously await using this part to it's fullest :D

... counting down to the first race of '06 ...

ok i just had a quick read through full race's site...

it sounds like we already have traction bars and the problem exists in the control arm bushings. Why get a whole new cross member just for some bushings? isn't it possible to just get the new control arms with solid bushings? or is this cross memer designed to replace the factory item? no be additional....giving you further weight savings.

I'm not knocking it cause it's great to see hyde getting some non drag bits again and i'm all in favour of handling, just trying to prioritise and understand the mod.

Hyde is getting a lot of "non-drag racing" bits this winter ;)

We haven't installed this yet, so I am not sure what all it is replacing beyond the control arms.
I am curious to see what the net gain/loss is as far as weight.

As for your technical questions, I'm not really the person to ask. I'm going by what I have read and what made sense to me. AFAIK, there is no other option for the MR2's front end.

There is a Sustec brace for the front, which I recently bought, but will not be using since I got this piece instead.
