New shots for me as well. The second one looks very interesting the way the light is hitting the car.
Unless something has changed, and I haven't heard of anything, the car is owned by Larry Blair in California. He generally keeps the car near his home in the Bay Area.
Thanks for sharing!

I'll agree the photo looks a little weird, but I don't think it's computer generated (aside from being on a digital camera and maybe cleaned up in a photo editing program.)

I think it's caused by the use of Fill Flash and the reflection from the metallic paint. The picture is definitely real.

Yeah - I ended up stepping up to the plate a few times. :lol2:
I was hopeful that there would be at least one user over there who was familiar with my contributions in other places and could lend some extra credibility to my comments, and "McLaren" was able to do that.
It was also nice to see one of their Administrators step in and add to the discussion while suggesting that certain people should tone down their own approach. Hopefully all is well now.

Which chassis and colour?
and do you have a favourite picture out of your collection?

I like the dark blue and dark green F1s the most. That would include #018's original look, XP4's current look, #011 when sold by Christies (though I would have the interior changed), XP5 at any point in it's life, and certainly chassis #051 of the ones I have seen photos of.
I could post photos of all of them if you aren't familiar.
As for a favorite picture in the collection... damn, that's a tough question. There are some very special pictures in there - ones that really made me say "Wow" when I first saw them. There are other photos that are truly great but aren't all that large which makes them less appealing. Some pictures might not be of the highest quality, but offer unique information that increases their stock. There's also that shot of #068 with me in the driver's seat that I happen to like quite a bit. ;)
Normally I run the latest and greatest finds as desktop wallpapers on my 3 computers, but right now I'm not even living up to that really.
Home PC:

Laptop:

There have been some others up recently on my home and work PCs, but the laptop has remained the same since that picture was first discovered.
Some of my recent favs have been the great shot of #065 in Singapore I found a while back, the shot of Rowan's car from TopGear, the shot of the 4 ZAZ Museum F1s together, a shot of one of the FINA shortails that tak43 took at Silverstone, and several of the shots of LM3 which I never get tired of looking at. Surprisingly though its rare to find a shot of any of the cars I listed as favorites actually on my desktop. :screwy: :grinno:

I don't think that shot was ever on the old McLaren site - they had more of a side view of the car. The section you refer to as 'yellow' is actually 'Papaya Orange' btw.

Erik: Noticed that a certain someone is still rather hard headed about the S7 vs. F1 on the Forza site. This may bolster your defense. He likes to quote magazine numbers a lot. (And seems to be a racer...) Well, let the record speak for themselves:
LeMans Qualifying (I took qualifying times since it's the time with the least amount of resistance from slower traffic and always the race times will be slower).
1995: McLaren GTR Best Time: 3'57"18 Ave speed: 206.425 kph (overall win)
Best Time ever for Saleen S7R GTLM (2001): 3'52"849 Ave speed: 210.347 kph (finished 18th place)
2002 Saleen S7R: 3'58"833 Ave speed: 205.75 kph (finished 26th place)
1997: McLaren GTR (longtail) 3'45"402 Ave speed: 217.292 kph (1st in class, 2nd overall)
An endurance race has always been used to prove a marques pedigree as well as establish one.

I actually became rather disinterested in the thread when all the "this car is better than that car" stuff started. If people want to state their opinions that's fine, but I find debating opinions is rather trite in these cases.
I have my own opinions of the S7 and they aren't necessarily favorable. If he wants to like the S7 more, that's his prerogative and I'm not going to expend any effort to change his mind.

I have a friend with an S7. On backroad drives, the ground effects suck the car down so much that it grounds out over every bump and ripple. It's horrible to listen to all the scraping and graunching noises if you are following behind. It's a fast car, but it's far more single-purpose than the McLaren. Great illustration of what Saleen was thinking about when making his car (high performance) compared to what Gordon Murray focused on-- overall packaging.
