Down shifting problem

I have a 97 3.5l and lately when the car heats up it starts having trouble down shifting. When I am rolling to a stop and then try and give it some gas to go it seems like it has not properly down shifted and bucks as it tries to go into gear. This only happens when it is warmed up. Has anyone had this problem?? Any help would be greatly asppreciated. Thanks.

I've had this problem on my Caravan (same transmission).
It started after a lube place put in the wrong fluid and the trans started slipping.
I drained it and put in the correct fluid, but after that the trans sometimes shifts slow into 1st gear when coming to a stop. My current work around is to manually shift into first gear while the van is still moving about 10 mph as I'm coming to a stop if I know that I need to take off immediately (or I'm not going to fully stop before taking off again). If I'm going to be stopped for 5 or more seconds, it will usually get shifted into 1st on it's own. The problem hasn't got any worse after the fluid problem was fixed. I assume the the slipping that occured while it had the wrong fluid in it significantly wore down some of the clutches and I will need a rebuild soon.

when was the last time you had your transmission serviced? Like neon rt was saying, do you remember if the right fluid was used? Another possibility is that your TCM is getting outdated due to the age of the vehicle.

The fluid was changed about 2 months ago. I had this problem prior to having the fluid changed. Can you tell me what TCM stands for?? Thanks
