Wipers not working right

I have a 1988 GMC c2500 3/4 ton extended cab. My wipers stay on after the switch is turned off. To stop them I have to shut the ignition off. When I do this they stop. When I turn them on again the same thing happens. I just updated to the new style wiper motor today and the same thing is happening. Now with the new wiper with just the ignition on and the engine not started the wipers work fine and shut off fine. But as soon as you starte the engine the problem of them not shutting off comes back. Hopefully someone can direct me to the fix for this! Could it be in the turn signal switch that has the wipers with delay built in, be the problem? Thanks in advance!

You need to replace your wiper control board. You can buy one at any parts store or your gm dealer. The aftermarket kits that I sale have the pulse board, new cover and screws. It is part of the wiper motor, there is a black cover with "3" t15 torqes screws holding it on. Unplug the electrial connector, remove the screws, the cover and then pull strait out on the board. Clean the cover mateing surface, put a small bead of sealant on the outer edge of the new cover (or old cover if reuseing), tighten the 3 cover screws and then plug back in. Hope this helps.

Could it possibly be the combination cruise controll wiper switch on the steering column? Or do you think it will end up being the circuit board? BTW I did have to run an external ground to make the motor run constantly at the firewall. Also a few years ago the truck was stollen and the dealer had to rewire the components inside the column. They did not replace the Combo Arm in question. I think they just rewired it.
Thanks for the comeback and maybe you have a thought about this possibility!

I had the same exact problem with my 96 GMC 1500. I replaced the wiper circuit board, and all works fine now. Hope this is your problem.

The more you talk about your problem, I also wonder if your problem is with the multi function switch. All of the wires in the colum will be color coded, if they crossed two wires then it would cause problems, or maybe one of the wire is making a bad conection. Also have you got a wiring diagram to see if the two motors are wired the same?

Well it has tirned out to be the pesky circuit board in the motor. My orriginal board was bad and the replacement upgraded motor was also bad. I am glad it was an easy fix! Thanks to all who replyed to my original post. Have a great New Year! Now its on to the heater actuator problem. The new motor didnt do the trick so I guess its the digital controll fan switch on the dash! Always something!

Question: What is not working on your heater?
Answer: Well the motor that opens the vent when the cold /Hot digital switch is activated. The signal to the actuator motor is intemittent irratic. I was told 99% of the time it is the Actuator Motor itself. So now I hace 3 Actuators one being brand new that do the same thing. Run irratic!!! So now I believe it is the fan switch on the dash that has the hot/cold digital indicator built in. When you hold the slide digital lever lets say to go to hot for a few seconds and it starts to travel on its own, the motor (Actuator) starts out working constant and then sputters along the opening process. So the only thing I can think of is it is the fan/Digital switch on the dash. What do you think? Also if it is the dash blower switch on the dash, can you replace it with one that has a MAX blower button or do you have to stay with the stock one which this does not have? It is a 1988 GMC c2500 3/4 truck 2WD
Thanks for your help!

I have a 94 and it would not change to defrost, I got to where i could see if the motors were moving the doors, the door was actually stuck shut. I removed the motor and with a pair of pliers I twisted the knob and got the door to move, put the motor back on and it has worked fine since.

In my case the door is working just fine. Its something else!

It is probably the control panel then.

Would the control board also correct all wiper functions not working except for high speed?
