Hello everyone-my first post here. As you will soon be able to tell, I'm not a mechanic so you'll have to excuse my ignorance.

I have a 2004 Hyundai Accent and while checking my fluid levels, I noticed the ATF level is low. I did not receive an owner's manual when I purchased the vehicle about 6 months ago. My question...What type ATF does this vehicle require. It has about 15,000 miles on it and I don't see any dripping where I park the vehicle so I'm assuming I just need to add some. I had the oil changed at Jiffy Lube recently and it seems the guy either missed the ATF level or ignored it. It doesn't seem to be a recent issue, that I can tell.

Any info would be appreciated.

Hyundai's take what they call SPIII. Hyundais, Kias, and some Mitsubishis use it. Don't go with anything else. The aftermarket fluids that thy say will work with any make of car, will not.

What kind of fluid is in there? There are some fluids that say they will work on all makes of cars, but they don't. From experience, those that put that fluid in last longer than if Dextron III, or Type-F fluid was put in. Usually a few months before the tranny goes south. If the wrong fluid is in there, take it to the dealer and have them do a flush with the correct fluid. Sometimes this has fixed it, and sometimes the tranny is too far gone to be saved.
