Woah!

Ragdoll cats are a popular, relatively new breed known for being affectionate and their tendency to relax their muscles and go limp when being held.

Heheh, I want one.

I'm actually highly doubting the authenticity of this story, but thought it was a crazy picture. Too easy to photoshop (and it has that look about it), and I've also never seen a newborn kitten (especially one that's only 1 day old) that has it's eyes open.

You're right on the money there, they don't open their eyes for 1 to 2 weeks.

I wouldn't think that MSNBC would jeopordize their reputation by publishing a photoshopped picture. I think it's real.

What reputation? :disappoin :disappoin

Its a fake.
No way a 1 day old cat is going to have its open and that clear, or that big.
And there is no way a one eyed cat would have its eye centraly located in the middle of its face.

what if that pic was taken after it died? can you open the cat's eyes? dont they have some fluid protecting them?

if you look at any cats eyes, they're either green, blue, sometimes yellow and i can't think of any other colour eyes i've seen cats having. they also have the vertical pupil and this cat appeared to just have one very large, dark eye. quite uncharacteristic of cats. also, that eye is massively disproportionate to the kitten, and like mentioned before, it's eyes are open, which they shouldn't be.

If a mutated cat can be born w/ one eye, don't you think there's a chance it could be born w/ that eye open?

My mom had a 2-headed cat that lived a day. But she was too weirded out to keep it and threw it away.

Wait, or maybe it was a dog. Yeah, I think it was a 2-headed dog.

you guys act like it's a normal cat. the thing has one eyball, no nose, and if you look closely, it appears to have no eyelid. i dunno if it's real but i think it's feasible considering it has a disease that causes severe facial deformities.

The least severe of the facial anomalies is the median cleft lip which is caused by the same disease! The most severe is cyclopia, an abnormality characterized by a single eye located in the area normally occupied by the root of the nose, and a missing nose or a proboscis (a tubular-shaped nose) located above the eye. The least common facial anomaly is ethmocephaly, in which a proboscis separates closely-set eyes. Cebocephaly, another facial anomaly, is characterized by a small, flattened nose with a single nostril situated below incomplete or underdeveloped closely-set eyes.
I know this because one of my friends brothers was born with one eye, it was open when he was born...he died after about two days though :(
