camry 1997 engine code P1780 ?

What is the meaning of this engine check code for 97 Camry - P1780

Park/neutral position switch malfunction. Signals are scrambled to ecm from the position switch. Could be a circuit short, a bad switch, or bad ecm.

The dtc illumination conditions (rpm and speed), trouble shooting procedures and values have changed from what you posted.

Example Inspec Procedure 1 shows shift position P with continuity checks of terminal 6-5 and 4-7.

The gen 4 tests terminals 6-5 and 2-7.

It gets you looking in the right area though.:smile:

L is 2-3 for gen4 vs 4-3
P or N is 0v instead of 0-3v

Another scenario if you have the engine immobilizer system because harness is different.
