A friend of mine has a 1988 pontiac 6000 with a 2.8 and the check engine light came on and auto zone checked it and it was mass airflow sensor. Well, last night it quit. I did the code and it says 34. I am not sure but think thats the electronic control modul, just not sure for this make and model. Autozone is trying to tell him its the computer. My question aand later statement is: Could the air sensor cause a car to die and not start( I think no spark) and can someone tell me what code 34 is for this car and is gm diagnostic code a general code for most models? I use to own a Fiero, so I know some codes from it. and any ideas as to what could cause this.
thanx in advance!
and my statement, The autozone here is a bunch of idiots! sorry if I offend but I had to say it.

Code 34 is for the Mass Airflow Sensor: Signal voltage or Frequency is Low (low airflow detected) during engine cruise... There is also a definition that applies to a MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor, but that was only on 4 cyl. versions, your 2.8 should have the MAF sensor.
Take from that what you will, might remove it and try cleaning it..
Good Luck

The code is a mass air flow sensor on a A body.
There is a PROM CHANGE and TSB on the 2.8 eng code w .
It changes the mass air flow sensor over to a speed density system.
The tsb on it says to change the prom to cure engine dying and hesitation and stalling.
Get the prom ID from a scanner reading and have the dealer run it for the updated prom.
Or post it back here and someone can check it for you.
And like you say auto zone people are not trained tech/mechanics. They are parts people.
Also you may want to do a tap or squese test on the computer.

Well Parts people is what they are called or supposed to be.
But they get to thinking they are tech/mechanics for some reason.
I had a son inlaw working there one time.
They sure had him brainwashed.
So go figure from there.

removed and cleaned air flow sensor, still no start.
can't get a spark at any plug, any suggestions?

Unplug mass air flow sensor and see if you get spark.
If not go to a no spark repair flow check.

replaced the electronic control module under the coil pack and it fired up!
